Why all these quotes from Law Enforcement about gangs and "bad" prison reform? This was an angry man who killed his wife and others...there is absolutely nothing here that relates to gangs or criminal releases. However, the FACT that is 50-caliber handgun is available to the public is very much an issue.

When will the President of the United States take notice of and comment upon this tragedy? After he comments upon the murder of a pregnant wife and her two young daughters by her husband and their father in the heart of Trump country? MAGA!

All you have to do is drive up highway 99 and witness the poverty and despair of this area. It's worse than a 3rd world country. The murder rate for this area does not surprise me. It probably has not changed in economic standing since the great depression.

This is not the only California city suffering from this kind of violence; look at statistics from Salinas, Gilroy, Santa Maria, and others. I know the paper doesn't want to touch the third-rail of political discourse, but it needs to at least mention the racial component of the problem.

Not a surprise that it involved a domestic violence incident--A significant portion of US mass shootings co-occur with domestic violence--maybe not in the same incident, but gunmen start their violence at home. The Pulse shooter, the Sutherland Springs gunman--according to NPR (November 7, 2017), 54% of mass shooters are also domestic violence perpetrators.
