New York Times and Lela Moore -- please find the people whose stories you told in "Tales From Those In The Path of Hurricane Florence" and let us know how they got through Hurricane Florence and how they are doing now. Your readers care.

Good people, all of them. Makes you proud to be American, their fear, humor, and inner strength are on display in each story. I wish them all able to find a safe haven.

What is left out from l these difficult stories is how the weather service and media hype every storm now. . Actually has it hit the coast yet. 90 MPH Please! As a veteran of 10 hurricanes my family has perspective on what is dangerous. If you live near a river get out. In south florida people never used to live in trailers on the beach, In south florida people learned to build with concrete block or earlier Coral rock. I think all the coral rock houses withstood Andrew just fine. My grandfather built the first concrete block home in Miami. when I moved to North Carolina and saw stick built houses I was truly shocked people would live near the coast in these doll houses. The other issue is that these aren't islands but sand bars that are constantly in motion, as people cut down the maritime forest they destroyed what little barriers the islands have to big storms. Maybe we need to remember that the wild horses have survived on these barrier islands for 500 years, are they smarter than humans? Guess so.

These are the stories we don't necessarily think of when we get annoyed hearing about the people who stay during a storm. We need to remember that not everyone is actually able to leave. Hoping all these people are okay after the storm.

we had reservations w/5lb dog; & they called to tell us they were shutting down electricity Wed. 3 pm and we were on 4th floor. Forget that hotel. We're hunkered down at home with flashlights, lantern, candles and love. we are less than 1 mi. from river and 7 mi. from ocean. Have hurricane shutters on windows and 2 solar lights from roof are giving us some natural light. 84/77 yrs. strong!
