It can be difficult to get to exhibits like this, so I r status. Lorraine O'Grady's "Art is..." is striking. The use of gold painted frames, simple in execution, dramatically elevates the faces of people of color, challenging the omnipresent portraiture of white faces of power in Western art. She becomes the modern Rembrandt, Velázquez, Ingres, or Holbein the Younger; documenting the faces of an essential movement in American culture and art.

It can be difficult to get to exhibits like this, so I thank The Times for bringing it to us. These incredible artists deserve more name recognition; hopefully the exhibit and article enhance their status. Lorraine O'Grady's "Art is..." is striking.
