My aunt: Dorothea Britte of Providence, Ri donated a dress that had belonged to Ms. Jones to the Rhode Island Historical Society.

Thank you for publishing this. This is another reason why I am proud to be a Black Man who respects Black Woman.

She was not totally overlooked here in Rhode Island, as she was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2013. http://rhodeislandmusichalloffame.com/site/?page_id=396

Thanks for bringing this important artist’s life to a wider audience. One possible correction: the article’s description of her famous Madison Square Garden “Grand Negro Jubilee” concert refers to songs by the “Jubilee Chorus.” Was that group actually the Jubilee Singers, of Fisk University?

Thank you for this series, I rarely praise the NYT or its readers ,however these obituaries while recognizing women who have made significant contributions to western civilization also make clear that the attitudes towards women have changed to the benefit of mankind. I always have my granddaughters read about these extraordinary women.
