There’s a Reason You’re Drinking So Much Aperol Spritz

Been drinking Aperol Spritz's for years sans olive. Love Campari on the rocks with a twist of lime too. Always refreshing.

Had these for the first time while visiting Venice in 1999. They were served throughout the day and (if memory serves) were finished with an orange or an olive depending on the time of day. They cost all of one euro and I drank more than my share. When I returned to SF, try as I might, I could not find Aperol anywhere. Now, of course, it is everywhere. It really is the perfect summer drink -- even in the fog that has been attending our San Francisco days of late.

I consumed three of these on a warm sunny evening in Belgium this past September. Absolutely the worst hangover I’ve ever experienced and I’m not an amateur .

The biggest reason that people are drinking so much Aperol spritz these days, that this article neglected to mention, is that it’s only 11% alcohol as opposed to 24% for Campari. Brian Robinson Gnarly Vines

@Brian Robinson Ah, but the Prosecco goes straight to my head every time.

This trend has not reached my corner of Philadelphia. I'd never heard of Aperol before seeing this article.

@Rob It's a fantastic Summer cocktail, you must try it. Plus it's just plain beautiful in a glass, catches the attention of everyone in the restaurant, or on your patio. Make sure all the ingredients are ICE COLD. Serve with a paper straw, voilà!
