This guy favors companies over workers, men over women, debt over balance, and the Republican pro- Russian posture over the historical record of Russia's subversion of our democracy. In other words a perfect Trump candidate.

In addition to the question of a link between his nomination and the fact that Judge Kennedy could be damaged by the role of his son in the funding of Trump by the Deutsch Bank, Judge Kavanaugh should define what « religion » is, and what « speech » is. As a lawyer I have trouble with those two words. Does he?

Judge Kavanaugh needs to recognize that he is adding to the chaos and division in our country. He needs to postpone his confirmation until after the midterms and refuse to proceed until Judge Garland has had a fair hearing. If he is a man who cannot be bought, who is impartial, and who recognizes the dangerous position the Supreme Court currently occupies, he really has no other ethical options. He can restore faith in law and order in this country overnight. Or, by allowing the confirmation to proceed, he can witness the mayhem that ensues and realize that he could have, by taking a principled stand, possibly avoided it.

Would Brett Kavanaugh pay any attention to me, or to any frequent commenter to the NYT's.? Probably not. I would not expect him to. Would anything, any human action or reaction, surprise me these days? No. Do I know everything? No. I guess, a lot. I guess if Donald J. Trump listened to his critics he would not have been elected president. I guess if the 9/11 hijackers had listened to their critics the Twin Towers would still be standing. I guess if Mitch McConnell had listened to his critics Merritt Garland would be a Supreme Court Justice. I guess if Johnnie Cochran had listened to his critics OJ Simpson would be in jail and it would possible, if not inevitable, for Donald Trump to grant him a pardon. I am going to a baseball game with my nephew. May not be available for riposte. Good luck to all. Good luck to Brett Kavanaugh.

A Civil Activist In Chief foaming at the mouth about "dark money" to trigger a blatant abuse of power at the IRS, foaming at the mouth about keeping your doctor while he crafts legislation making that impossible, foaming at the mouth about climate change when there is no physical evidence of it - THAT is a soap opera.

This should be a non-partisan position. The fact that he worked for the GW Bush White House and argued for Bill Clinton's impeachment makes him a partisan candidate. In my simple mind, this should disqualify him. Surely there are other qualified candidates who have not sullied their resumes with partisan politics.

I would hope this nomination process does not become a soap opera, or worse devolve into a series of shouting matches. The Senate Judiciary Committee has quite a number of seasoned Senators on both sides, and should be able to conduct a thorough examination of Mr. Kavanaugh’s background and positions. I’m not expecting an answer to the obvious question about overturning Roe vs. Wade, but it will be asked by someone. What I envision, at least I hope so, is the Democrats, in particular (their smart enough), to question the nominee enough to get an indication where he stands on most issues, but that’s enough. Kavanaugh will likely be approved by the Senate, so The Democrats must look professional in how they present themselves. Being frothy antagonists is not a winner with the Supreme Court nomination, professional hard questioning, yes.

Questions need to be asked about possible blackmail of Kennedy by Trump or shady deals. Kennedy’s son is global head of real estate with Deutsche Bank. This bank has paid numerous large fines for money laundering and fraudulent practices. Trump has been able to secure loans from Deutsche Bank when other banks would not. Currently the bank is under further Justice Dept. investigations. Trump could have had the Justice Dept pay additional attention to Kennedy’s son part in shady practices, if Kennedy did not step down. Is the media or the Democrats going to ask these tough questions?.

People have already made up their minds about Kavanaugh. For some, he is just a puppet. For others, he might be a puppet, but he is a competent one.
