The photo of Wojnarowicz with his lips sewn together is hauntingly grotesque and beautiful. A perfect image of the Reagan/AIDS years. He was always a challenging artist to me. So glad he is getting this retrospective.

This is an important show and should not be missed. Spot-on review of an artist and his work that really captured the anger, frustration and despair of the Reagan/Bush 80s. Unfortunately, it brought me back. I would strongly recommend following the show chronologically. Because, as the reviewer says, Wojnarowicz’s political outsider anger is there even before his HIV diagnosis. You'll watch and hear it build to shouts and screams for his own life and ours. Whether or not there are parallels to today's politically divided world, I can only hope that there are many new "angry angels" out there creating art now. Because strong emotions do make for strong and powerful creativity.
