Issa Rae vs Rachel Brosnahan--I could stay up all night trying to decide who's better in their respective series. These two women are unstoppable. So happy they were recognized.

The Twin Peaks snub once again proves how worthless the Emmy's are.
Antje (Germany)
No nomination for Seth Meyers ?
fast/furious (the new world)
Best tv of the year: "The Americans" - a masterpiece and the best tv drama since "The Sopranos." In the drama pantheon with "The Sopranos," "The Wire," "Breaking Bad." And Issa Rae! "Insecure" is a thing of beauty.
susan (nyc)
Benedict Cumberbatch was absolutely brilliant in "Patrick Melrose." He deserves the nomination and the win. And as others have commented - why wasn't "Twin Peaks" nominated??????

Strange there was no "Documentary Series" nomination for "The American Experience: The Vietnam War." I didn't agree with everything in it politically but it was a stunning experience.

I'll say it again: no actor who's won an Emmy should be permitted to compete a second time for their performance in the same role. Does anyone seriously believe that an actor who's already demonstrated mastery of a given role is suddenly going to forget how to play that role? Julia-Louis Dreyfus and other multi-winners should be compelled to share the wealth, especially given that no two roles are directly comparable and that the actors who play them are in any case greatly advantaged or disadvantaged by the quality of the writing. Were that not the case, Ed O'Neill would own a whole room full of Emmys for his performance in "Married With Children."

In your discussion of potential EGOT winners, you failed to also include Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They are up for Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics for the song In The Market For A Miracle. If they win, I think they will both beat Robert Lopez as the youngest winner of an EGOT and the fastest to win all four awards (Pasek is the younger of the two). Their other awards are 2017 Oscar - Best Original Song ("City of Stars" from LaLa Land), 2017 Tony - Best Original Score and 2018 Grammy - Best Musical Theater Album (both for Dear Evan Hansen).

I wonder what “left-leaning” means to this writer...
Richard Frauenglass (Huntington, NY)
Not that these excercizes in self aggrandizement really matter, but how can a program not broadcast for "how long" be nominated for anything?
Jen (NH)
There's a shocker The Walking Dead snubbed again. What a joke.
Nichol (Mpls)
My vote is for Issa!
John B (New York City)
How is it the best performance of the year does not get a nom??? Not only did Jodie Comer deserve a nomination for Killing Eve she deserved to win.
Mr. Grieves (Nod)
The Americans has won only two Emmys, both for guest actress. That’s a crime. In a just world, it would sweep every category for which it has been nominated. (If not Keri Russell, it better better be Sandra Oh. This is Lena Headey’s fourth nomination for Best Supporting Actress. A win is long overdue, though I’d be happy with Thandie Newton; her performance in Westworld was—ahem—out of this world. Jane Krakowski is one of the funniest working actresses, but she keeps getting snubbed. She and Titus Burgess—both up for Supporting Comedy—should win. And I have nothing against Leslie Jones, but seriously? Kate McKinnon is the only SNL cast member whose name should be up there. And where’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? Anyway, I fully expect the Emmys to disappoint. It’s almost as if getting nominated but losing is a better indicator of excellence than getting nominated and winning.
Designing Woman (Intelligent America)
No nominations for The Terror? Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies ingnored for their wonderful performances? Unbelievable.
Mr Peabody (Mid-World)
Netflix has more crappy shows than almost any pay network. They have a long, long way to go to bring HBO type quality such as Wire, Sopranos, GOT, True Detective, Pacific, Band of Brothers, John Adams, Big Little Lies, etc, etc, etc.
Elaine M (Colorado)
The Americans is the best show of the decade and deserves all the wins. Handmaid's Tale second season was dreadful, turning into torture and maternity porn that served nothing but the ego of its star/exec producer.
Tom Siebert (Califreakinfornia)
Cannot believe "Twin Peaks" got shut out. It was the best TV experience I've had since "Mad Men" was at its peak. Kyle MacLachlan was amazing.
Bonnie Balanda (Livermore, CA)
Game of Thrones doesn't deserve any Emmies. Yuk.
Niche (Vancouver)
For me it is a toss up of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Black-ish (shows so different, I'm surprised I watch both). Black-ish is so fresh and current, willing to go where conventional family comedies won't go. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was a surprise hit in our house. The premise of it really didn't capture our attention and I only started watching it when Rachel Brosnahan won the golden globe. However, it is such a well-done show and Rachel Brosnahan is so good. I hope she wins the emmy.

Maybe they should re-name the Emmy's the "Cable/Streaming Ace Awards." There used to be a "Cable Ace Awards," but nobody watched it...
Elvis (US)
Everyone with cable is watching Rick and Morty. The cable cutters are mostly limited to Netflix. Can't believe SNL even got nominated for anything.
Famdoc (New York)
The majority of the comments herein fall into the "XXX was so good, why didn't he/she/it get nominated". The astonishing quantity of content, on commercial television, premium and other cable networks and streaming services means many fine actors/actresses/programs are not nominated. I'd like to see a separate category for best foreign language program: Fauda, Srugim, Borgen, Rita, Call My Agent, The Lava Field and dozens more could qualify, making Americans more aware of the fantastic television being produced in non-English language lands.
Ann (California)
Agreed. So many terrific foreign-made series--riveting performances, unique plots, great production values; here is a short list: Babylon Berlin (German), The Method (Russian), Wanted (Australian), Snifter (Russian), Alias Grace (Canadian), Dicte (Danish), Gran Hotel (Spanish), Velvet (Spanish), The Invisible Guest (Spanish), Secret City (Australian), Deep Water (Australian), La Mante (French), Witnesses (French), The Frozen Dead (French), Happy Valley (British), The Forest (French), Department Q (Danish), Borderland (Finnish), Dark (German), Happy Valley (British).... Heading to Asia next...
Jackie (Nashville)
"Twin Peaks" didn't get the recognition it deserved. Last summer's limited run "Return" really struck a chord with my imagination. So many of the series' images, sounds, ideas continue to haunt me a year later. It was an incredible artistic achievement by Lynch, Frost, and their ensemble cast, especially Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern.
stuckincali (l.a.)
Pretty sure the cast, etc. are not feeling the need for an award from the Emmys...
PaulB67 (Charlotte)
Since program scheduling is pretty much all over the map, I do not know whether "The Crown" was eligible for consideration again this year. It's the Netflix series that is, incredibly, changing the lead actors to make the aging Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip look more realistic. What that means, sadly, is no more Claire Foy, playing the young Elizabeth. It must be truly challenging for an actor to have to act reserved and shy, but without appearing weak or uninteresting. But Claire Foy pulled it off remarkably well through her time on this series. If she is nominated again, I hope she wins. If not, here's a long-distance Bravo!"

I am disappointed that Zahn McClarnon who plays Akecheta on Westworld was not nominated! The episode, Kiksuya, was one of the best episodes of the season, and his acting deserved an Emmy nod.
Emily (Minneapolis)
His "big" episode of the second season of Fargo was excellent too. He's terrific.
Silver0100 (New York)
How could Pose, which in my opinion is one of the best acted shows of the last 10 years, not get any nominations? The use of emotion and empathy shown by every character plus phenomenal writing and directing should have seen the show nominated for every category.
Tim (NYC)
Isn't too early for it to be nominated, since it just premiered in June 2018? I would expect it to be included next year.
Matthew (NYC)
Oh maybe, i guess I didn’t realize that.
Clare (in Maine)
I would love to see The Americans win. It's one of the best series I've ever watched. The cast is outstanding.
Dylan111 (New Haven)
I'm in complete agreement. The Americans was great from start to finish.
Dylan111 (New Haven)
I've seen her in several British series now. She's really a remarkable actress. Her versatility is off the charts, up there with Tatiana Maslany.
WeHadAllBetterPayAttentionNow (Southwest)
I am a big John Oliver fan, but still it doesn't seem fair to me to compare Last Week Tonight, which airs weekly, and takes long hiatuses, against the nightly performances that Colbert, Kimmel and Fallon have to prepare material for.
Bill (Yorktown Heights, NY )
Mrs. Maisel is amazing. Everyone I mentioned it to agreed that it was great, it's rare to have such agreement on a TV show. It definitely deserves to win Best Comedy and Actress (and probably more).
llnyc (NYC)
I was worried that Noah Emmerich and Costa Ronin would split the vote for Best Supporting Actor - Drama. Instead, two of TV's all-time great, nuanced performances went completely unrecogized. And three, count 'em three, handmaidens got the nod instead of the great Margo Martindale? As my grandmother used to say: Highway Robbery.
Ed (New York)
I completely agree although I’d probably give the nod to Emmerich, if only because his part was so much bigger and he had so many more great scenes to play. At the airport, telling Oleg how much of a mess his life is and he doesn’t want Oleg on his conscience, too. Or, the best scene of all – in the garage, in the finale, which should have secured an Emmy nom for Emmerich, as well.
Northforky (Ward, Colorado)
Patrick Melrose? Why am I not seeing that mentioned?
Tom (Boston)
Good point. Brilliant show.
Marge Keller (Midwest)
@Northforky @Tom I agree 1000%.
GreaterMetropolitanArea (just far enough from the big city)
It just aired. Maybe watch for nominations next year.
RobD (CN, NJ)
I really enjoy the campy eccentricity of Glow. Alison Brie is terrific and Marc Maron is a curmudgeonly pleasure.
Marge Keller (Midwest)
Based on the predictions by John Koblin, this year's Emmy Award nominations will pretty much be a repeat of last year's list of nominations. And if this year's show is anything like last year's show, it will be filled with more political tear down jokes, #MeToo chatter and overall commentary unrelated to the work and artistry of the actors, writers, directors, make up folks and everyone else involved who brings great entertainment to television. It would be refreshing if this year's Emmy Awards show would not be used as a platform for any kind of politics or social issues.
Marge Keller (Midwest)
Sincere apologies for the above rant. I just wish shows like "Better Call Saul", "The Americans" and "Billions" could get recognized for their brilliant writing and acting and receive some of the lion's share of credit, at least once in a while. Really sorry for my whinny and unwarranted previous comment.
alocksley (NYC)
Please don't apologize for speaking the truth. The real question is why in this age of Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, when production values have soared and great talent is being attracted to television, the Academy continues to ignore much of this fine product.
Marge Keller (Midwest)
@alocksley Thank you for your kindness. I totally agree with your closing statement of "the Academy continues to ignore much of this fine product." So very true.
arp (East Lansing, MI)
When it comes to comedy, which is the show, broadcast or streamed, one is least likely to forget a minute after one sees it? Hands down, it is "black-ish." In addition, the streamed comedy shows are too often self-congratulatory and heavy-handed.
jack (new york city)
black-ish is terrific. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is also, and neither self-congratulatory nor heavy-handed.
alocksley (NYC)
have to agree. Black-ish has taken on some serious issues in ways that stay with you (with me anyway). Mrs. Maisel. . .well. . .this show is not comparable to anything else out there. The level of craft in writing, acting, set/costume design is unlike any comedy show I can remember, and it's a one-hour comedy to boot. What is self-congratulatory is what I call the "M*A*S*H syndrome", when a show has been on the air too long and the actors are not longer playing their characters but just talking among themselves. The final 2-3 seasons of that series was a bore. Current victims of this include The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family, both of which should have ended their runs a couple of seasons ago.
