Of course this democrat violated the law! Why would anyone expect that one of the largest Sanctuary City conspirators, one of the most powerful mafia dons of the mass organized crime of the employment of many millions of illegal immigrants for slave wages in the USA (that makes our 1% 100's of billions in unearned profits) would obey our laws of national sovereignty regarding something as trivial as the southern border? I mean every one in Latin America dares to violate our southern border, and is rewarded for doing so, so why should Blasio not trot back and forth.

The only attention DB is garnering is for himself and his future plans to run as POTUS.

If only we had that wall.,,pesky mayors roaming about high sekurrity areas

Warren Wilhelm is about as phony as a $3 bill. And yet the supposedly smart people of NY gave him another term.

I know DeBlasio went down there because he has higher political aspirations - but I'm still glad that those kidnapped little kids, who are stolen from their families, have big loud men with cameras going down there to draw attention to their plight. My ultra-pragmatic mother would say that it's not why somebody does good that matters, it just matters that they do good.

I still can't believe de Blasio is the guy New Yorkers elected twice. Talk about voting in opposition to your own best interests. Now it is children with poisoning from lead paint. What's next? Maybe de Blasio can just move south of the border and stay there.

Actually his real name is Warren Wilhelm Jr, he took his mother's name in 2002 because he wanted to sound ethnic. Such a sad fellow and so transparent but not in a good way.

He went. And you SHOULD call it an attempt to garner attention. Garnering attention is exactly what is called for in fighting against the barbarity, evil and stupidity of Trump.

Blaming law enforcement for following the 9th Circuit Court's mandated policy of family separation is ridiculous. People who know nothing about where separation policy came from keep sticking their feet in their mouths through ignorance. POTUS Bush and Obama abandoned their oath of office to enforce the letter of the law and refused to enforce the 9th's separation policy. Both Administrations lost in court, as did the current administration when appealing the unacceptable policy the court mandated in 1997. Now, after public outcry, the Court wants the government to unwind their 21 year old policy in one month. This is what happens when Liberal Activist Judges get a chance to change a law. They make it worse, and then try to blame the consequences on those tasked with enforcing their terrible mandates. The Court had no business forcing the separation mandate . Their job is to interpret laws, not to add mandates and policies which change the law. And the worst thing is that NOONE puts the blame on their heroes in the 9th Circuit for this catastrophic policy. What were they thinking when they invented it? The answer is simple: They were not thinking, just acting. SAD!!!!!

Will they separate de Blasio from his children?

OMG. I am 71, and I remember the Berlin Wall and its divisive qualities well. To have our borders edging toward the disastrous results of the "Iron Curtain" walls is shameful.

de Blasio is all about self promotion. This life long politician who actually changed his name in order to be more politically viable, has never met a microphone or press conference that he could or would not take advantage of. Has he ever held a job in the private sector? Has he ever earned a dime that was not funded by taxpayers? What is a New York City mayor doing travelling to the Texas border except to put his face in the news? Look for more of the same as 2020 approaches. It's all de Blasio, all the time.
Glen (New York)
Because everything is running so smoothly in New York City that he can take the time to orchestrate a self-aggrandizing photo op on the border? Clearly he is trying to compile a photo montage to play during his (very short) 2020 presidential campaign.
Patrick (NYC)
Given the current policies at the border they all should be arrested and prosecuted. Same story in this country one set of rules for everybody with the exceptions made for the wealthy and their bought and paid for political lackeys.

I guess Trump will now change his line on who he believes comes to the US from Mexico illegally to" murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and De Blasio". I am waiting for the "lock him up" chants at Trump's rallies to follow soon. MAGA indeed!
Bill Again (NYC)
Bloviating Bill does it again. He tends to take his foot out of his mouth only to insert the other one.

It seems pretty clear that CBP is attempting to intimidate democratically-elected lawmakers, but in a stupid and public fashion that's only adding to the scandal. Please, keep it up guys. The more you draw public attention to your evil activities on at our border, the better.
Lazlo Toth (Denver)
Why does the police dept, have a right to keep the letter from the public to help reporters or the public make sense of the situation? I don't understand our freedom of information/FOIA laws. The situation is of interest but clarity would also be a good thing. Good for Bill for bringing some attention to the separation of families as well as the Mayor of Austin.

If you raft on the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park, you will cross the border over and over, multiple times. Since the rafting companies have a concession from the US government, one must assume this is legal. Since he turned around and entered where directed, the Mayors actions were legal.

My wife and I travelled a number of times into and back from Mexico at many of the largest and smallest border crossings in California, Arizona and Texas back in the 70s abd 80s - alwas on foot - and it was simply a matter of just walking. At some crossings you had to insert an American penny into a turnstyle to reenter the US, ostensibly a means to prevent impoverished Mexicans from entering the US, but most everyone seemed to be allowed to come and go as they pleased. Most of the people who are so adamantly opposed to any migration across the southern border into the US have never been to Mexico, let alone anywhere else on this giant globe (I have relatives in their 60s and older who've never set foot outside the state of Indiana), and yet they have an extraordinarily loud voice when it comes to immigration. A policy of ignorance.
skeptic (New York)
Only one nuance. You say "de Blasio hoped to garner attention". Actually, given his propensity for self-promotion, you should have said "he said he hoped to garner attention."

Trump distraction. The border guard no doubt a trumpie..if he/she exists at all.
