It is highly alarming to hear the dates 1996, 1998, and 2001 when listening to a report on the Oxycodone Epidemic. There was evidence and, by the sounds of it, plenty of damning evidence when this was first brought before the justice department. Shame on Rudy Guliani and his almighty lawyers from Purdue for wiggling their way out of a serious crime. As the Times reporter dutifully states, Oxycontin would have meer a bleep on the drug scene instead it is killing hundreds and thousands. I do not believe an associate of a friend who overdoses should go to jail. It is quite clear who is accountable and should go to jail.

There doesn’t seem enough emphasis on the role of the FDA. As far as I know, the US has among the most robust drug-testing requirements in the world. Yet, it sounds as if these mean, unscrupulous people at the nasty corporation has foisted these dangerous products on a helpless public.

There is no doubt that the many cities and regions in our country are fighting the Opioid Crisis. It is also a given that pharmaceutical companies should bear the consequences of their reckless misconduct. First nicotine and the tobacco industry. Now, another instance where the distributor knew the properties of its' product, yet disregarded a serious threat to the public while pursuing the Almighty Dollar.
