Of all the 7.6 billion human earth inhabitants, we will assume that all caring and responsible parents will not put their kids in danger. Crossing illegally to another country is considered a crime and if a family with kids decide to do this, they are placing their kids in danger.
The issue today is that our southern border must be protected. What needs to be done when an illegal immigrant family with kids is captured at the border, then the entire family (parents and kids) must be returned to their country (TOGETHER).
We should ask why this problem exists. God gave all men in this world intelligence. 03/12/2013 - Asian countries outperform the rest of the world in the OECD’s latest PISA survey, which evaluates the knowledge and skills of the world’s 15-year-olds. The OECD’s PISA 2012 tested more than 510,000 students in 65 countries and economies on math, reading and science. The main focus was on math.
U.S. did not come in first. To have a decent living environment do kids from all countries of the world need to come to the Canadian border, or Mexican border and sneak into the U.S. in order to succeed? No, shame on all countries who are forcing their people to become illegal immigrants in the U.S. These countries governments need to make plenty of jobs for their people, education, good health care, housing, and clean air and water. Why do most governments not care for the needs of their own people?

Obrador was correct in his criticism of NAFTA - it destroyed the small communities that were dedicated to agriculture, leaving many without work and you men subject to gangs and drugs. NAFTA is a bad deal, for the Mexicans.
4
Any moment now, Trump will tweet that he has a “great relationship” with Lopez Obrador and Mexico will pay for the wall. That is his usual approach to set up one of his deal making “accomplishments”. Trump lies about what the other guy agreed to, and then when the other guy denies it, Trump paints himself as the reasonable one and the other guy as the liar and cheat.
Kinda funny, though how it backfired on him last week when Trump claimed that he could order up 2 million barrels of oil per day from the Saudi king. The Saudi response, when translated from the diplomacy-speak, was for Trump to pound another of Saudi’s abundant resources: sand.
4
To conclude that Trump and Obrador are 'both populists' is to dismiss our slide toward fascism and to dismiss Mexico's aspirations for justice.
3
Donald always starts things so nice and warm and kissy. And then, it's just a matter of time.
4
Here it comes. I told you so. With the election of Lopez Obrador as president of Mexico, calls to renegotiate the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo* to open U.S. borders to millions of Central and South Americans, together with millions more Mexicans who now think they have a reason to invade the U.S. because it's their's.

Wow, I like it,,, here we go my dear American friends, what moral grounds America has to bash Russia when they themselves stole half of Mexico, and not only that, again what moral ground they have to favor Israel diplomatically when they drive out populations of Native Americans to the reservations. Bam
The ten scariest words in the English Language:"He's a terrific guy, Great respect for the man" Donald Trump.
3
Did Donald get the money for the wall like he promised?
Good conversation. What about the wall and Mexico paying for it.
The wall will NEVER be built, the wall is just a gimmick to induce maximum negotiations power and please his base and that includes you, let’s be real.

In answer to your headline question: Of course not! Why does anyone in the media give Trump the benefit of the doubt or extend the favor of trusting his words? They are forever changing, rooted in nothing but impulse and the moment.
1
Well, I hope Trump had a good conversation with Mexico -- not like that imaginary conversation with Mexico last year, or that other imaginary conversation with North Korea (he might have confused them with South Korea that time), or that other imaginary call from the Boy Scouts.
3
Good grief! Wouldn’t it pay the US in the long run to help ($ & maybe military) Mexico clean up the awful and fearful conditions down there?
We seem to do such a good job of sticking our nose in everyone else’s business, let’s do some constructive intrusiveness south of the border...
2
According to Trump, all his calls are magnificent and all his decisions are brilliant. Ignorance allows you so see anything you want.

The dislike of Trump in Mexico got Obrador elected. I think the new President of Mexico, elected resoundingly, is wise to Trump and his tactics. It is easy to have a good conversation. It is difficult to have a constructive and productive reciprocal relationship, especially with Trump.
12
If you think AMLO was elected because Mexico held a referendum on Trump and that his opponents were pro-Trump and he was the anti-Trump voice Mexicans selected then you officially have a comic-book ignorance of modern Mexican politics and history. Just staggering. (hint: it's not all about you and it is not all about Trump).
Anyway, congratulations to AMLO on his impressive victory. One hopes some good will come of it. One does not hold one's breath, but anything can happen. Why not something good?
Actually, it was the dislike of the Mexican government over the decades of corruption and violence that got Obrador elected. I wish him all the luck in the world, and an extensive security detail as the gangs will not like this one bit.

Back in 2008 as soon to be President Obama campaigned, he promised to renegotiate NAFTA. Bernie Sanders in 2016 was a vocal critic of NAFTA and Trump vowed to mend it or end it.
Apparently there are some real problems with the agreement for so many to run against it.
Maybe it is time to quit with the politics and face the fact that NAFTA failed and needs to be re-worked or ended.
5
Depends on where you live and what you do. I’m sure there are many areas that need a new look but NAFTA has been a plus for lots of people and companies-in each of the 3 countries.
I support re-negotiation of NAFTA, not dumping it. Our President is a terrible negotiator so I have little hope for a successful outcome.

All treaties get outdated. You fix them but you don't set them in flames. Your computer gets outdated and you have to update its software.

I wonder how Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador would describe the same conversation. I really doubt if he heard the same Trump worship - and demands for Trump worship - that Trump heard.
16
President Trump says he and Obrador had a "good converstation. And Obrador "in turn pledged never to “disrespect” the United States.
Trump probably heard that as "Mexico will pay for the wall". Just like he heard Kim say North Korea would give up all their nuclear weaponry after pledging to continue to agree to talk about issues they had already agreed to talk about in earlier meetings with South Korea.
A Trump tweet should be coming out in the next few hours or days proclaiming he's solved our border security problems and that we are now all safe.
21
It is at least refreshing to have a Mexican government that leans a little to the left for the first time in decades. Having the same elite in power for 18 years (and you could argue even back to 1988) has made the country stagnant, corrupt and full of inequality. He is definitely not a messiah, but seems to have a genuine interest in the poor.
But most importantly, his approach to violence and security is a new one and that definitely is a priority in a country that's third on this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_armed_conflicts

We are talking about a phone conversation between Donald Trump and the new leader of Mexico? I find the newsworthiness of this piece questionable. Why would anyone believe anything Trump says about their conversation? Why would Lopez Obrador believe anything Trump said to him?
26
A "good conversation" does not translate into a meaningful relationship. The US president now has a Mexican opponent coming from the left to match his own hard right populism. The president's dismissive remarks and attitude towards Mexico, coupled with major trade disagreements between the two countries doesn't bode well for a trusting partnership.
Now, with another loose cannon as a president south of the border, the US president can now see himself as other world leaders see him, and it's not a comforting sight.
11
"Loose cannon" That is, someone who speaks of doing more for the poor and fighting corruption. You probably think Zapata was a brand of shoes and Madero a piece of lumber.
6
Every conversation with Trump has a good beginning, until it doesn't.
32
if Americans want to stop criminals from coming over the border - stop buying drugs. an additional upside would be the reduction of murders on both sides of the border.
25
As they say,one good turn deserves another. I really wonder how the US president has the gall to act so nonchalantly towards Lopez Obrador when he has branded Mexicans as criminals and worse...
