"Asked if he had been watching the news coverage, he pointed at the pool hall’s television with a slight shrug; the program on display was a Korean talk show. “Kim Jong-un is evil,” he added, and he did not need to watch the news to make up his mind about that. He soon returned to his game. Lee Inho, 20, who moved to the United States when he was 5, said he was not even aware there was a meeting happening. “That’s something Americans care about,” he said with a smile, before walking back to a pool table to take his turn" Certainly seems like these guys are thoroughly Americanized in terms of their engagement with current events.

Trump is cozying up to dictators and autocrats and alienating our democratic allies. Re North Korean: peace, yes; denuclearization, yes; but also freedom and the respect of human rights.

A handful of Korean-Americans are pessimistic. Meanwhile, polls show that South Koreans are optimistic and hopeful - but US journalists somehow think they know better.

The mural pictured, of Kim coming to America, sent chill down the spine, especially after reading today’s op-ed “First They Came for the Migrants” (a must read for all Americans and (traditional) allies). Whether or not Kim ever actually steps foot in America, his style and preference for inhumane governance is already gaining footholds in America, thanks to his buddy trump and his backers. Today we have a whole population of North Koreans trapped in their own home and asylum seekers at our borders begging to be let in. One fears that, if current trends are allowed to continue, tomorrow it may be Americans crowding our own borders, begging for asylum.

Dunno about a few people from the posse down in LA, but the vast majority of Korean Americans are progressives/liberals (75% according to the poll) and they are wecoming the thawing relationship, including the suspension of the military exercise. You certainly count me in it.
