Galicia, in northwest Spain has wonderful very affordable stone houses that sit on the market undiscovered for years.

Does House Hunting in... ALWAYS have to just be international house porn? Could the Times ever show international homes that are even moderately feasible for non-plutocrats? Perhaps this section is paid for by the agents or listing companies, but if so, that should be noted.

Ah, yes, houses for the uberest of uber. Shades of The Night Manager's Dicky Roper's villa. I must place my deposit forthwith.

Yes, I agree. I opened this article hoping to get some background on the Spanish real estate market for real people -- my (distant) cousins from The Netherlands have retired there, partly for the lower costs of living. They do not have a $4+ milliion mansion (though they do have a few acres of almond trees).

Spanish almond trees sound marvelous, and quite exotic to this midwesterner.

I think we are seeing the problem with the Spanish economy: $1400 in taxes on a $5 million dollar property? Sounds like land owners have captured the government over there. Immoral.

Most countries don't finance their schools though real estate taxes so they are quite low. The US is the exception.

At least $1400 is $1400. Tell that to the Greek government, and they might not even have that. The property is gorgeous, though I wonder why the article has to particularly raise the point that crime rate is low. Now, it does set me thinking...
