It was kind of him to take time out of his day to make the soccer ball for the kids to play with.

It was resourceful to make a ball out of trash.
carter kuey (new egypt)
This is some serious enginuity its amazing how they can make somthing out of nothing.
Faith hoff (new jersey )
@carter kuey I agree with cater because he is telling the truth about how it is cool how he mad a soccer ball out of nothing.

This video interested me because of the powerful lesson we can all gain from it. The man in the film takes nothing but trash found in a village to create a soccer ball for children. Once the ball is complete it is not just a soccer ball but it is also happiness. The children who are seen in the video are growing up in a poor village. When the children play with the ball they seem very grateful to have something to play with. Watching this video really made me think of how many blessings I have and how I need to be more thankful for the blessings I have and for the ones I recieve. @[email protected]

Although this film was short, it was very inspirational. It provided us with the opportunity to look at a less fortunate part of the world, and see how their civilians live their life. In this clip, an older man was shown making a soccer ball out of scraps, and handing it to children in the village. These children were barefoot and walking on rubble, trying to find a space to play at. Watching this made me think about how selfish I am, and how I have been taking the opportunities I have been given for granted. I grew up playing soccer on perfectly groomed fields, with the nicest equipment, and world class coaches. During practices, my teammates and I will hardly touch the balls that are flat, or even if they have the slightest imperfection. We didn’t want anything to do with them because they weren’t “perfect”. Perfection. That’s what we look for in soccer. The perfect pass, the perfect goal, and the perfect record. Yet, all this perfection doesn’t equate to being happy. All we do is look for mistakes, instead of looking at the bigger picture. The kids in this video understood that being picky won’t make you happy. Yes, they had little, but they made the most of what they had. Instead of complaining that they didn’t have the best quality of everything, they put on a smile and were grateful. All these children wanted, was happiness. Because they didn’t look for the mistakes and imperfections, this is exactly what they found.

This film stood out to me because I have never seem someone dedicated to their causes enough to go out of their way and make a soccer ball out of garbage that they scaveneged from the ground. I find it interesting that this man had the idea to do this, and then stuck with it just for the community's benefit and amusement. This really just shows how dedicated he is to bettering his community and creating a sense of unity throughout it. It also shows how some people take what they have for granted, and do not understand what other people have to do to get things we can just easily access at the local store. It also shows how people can be so dedicated, him not caring that it is trash and just pushing through to make it into a soccer ball for the children of the community to have fun with.
Mason Mallory (Apopka)
In this film, it stood out to me that they are not in the most developed area due to them having to create their own soccer ball just to have their own amusement and fun. This man showed dedication to wanting the boys to have fun by creating a "soccer ball" out of garbage and string just so they can have fun. Even though this video was considerably short it showed that they are very extremely undeveloped but still use the resources they have. The film showed how generous people are, this man spent his time making a ball just so they can enjoy themselves. Just the older man's generosity shows how it can impact the community and the people that it helps to benefit. It helps to show that even the people in the worst living condition and worst possible places can have hearts of gold and just try to enjoy everything they possibly can.
Aidan Naran (Somewhere)
Although this film was short, it had a lot of meaning behind it. This shows that not everyone has access to resources to build the things they want, so some people have to go scavenging for things. It's really kind to see him make the ball to make the kids happy even though he doesn't receive some reward. This shows that there are still some good people in this world that strive to make other people happy and not just themselves. It's sad to see that not everyone is as privileged as us,and I hope that one day everyone gets the same amount of fairness. Although the soccer ball was made out of trash and scavenged parts, it shows the craftiness that some people have and the creativity using what you have. Overall I thought this film was short but sweet, and highlighted creativity and how it is for some people in the world.

This film stood out to me because i have never seen someone so dedicated as to want to make a soccer ball out of garbage, i find it so interesting how this man thought of doing something like this and actually did it. In the beginning i was kind of confused in the beginning as to what he was doing but as i got farther into the video i realized he was making a ball out of garbage and it amazed me. I was grossed out because he is using trash but at the same time i find it intriguing how he doesnt let the fact that it is trash stop him from fulfilling what he want to do. He turned waste into something useful by recycling the trash to make something everyone around the world can play with and be entertained by. I enjoyed seeing the children playing with his creation because they are being grateful to have something as much as a ball, it made me grateful to have all the things that i have today.
Samantha Medina (Apopka)
I think it was very kind of the man in the video to make the kids a ball. Doing things for other people that you aren't necessarily responsible for is a generous thing that more people should do. You never know what people are going through and life can be really hard. You never know how big of a difference a simple act of kindness can make. To take time out of his own life to do something nice for the kids was really nice of him. The situation of the area in the video doesn't look great and to take time out of his life when he may be struggling himself was an amazing thing to do. I feel like if everyone did things like that and just cared for each other more the world could be a much better place.
Brandy Holland (Apopka)
This film really stood out to me because this man took time out of his own day to make a soccer ball for the kids to play with. That was a very sweet thing to do and I know that he deserves well for what he did. This stood out to me because most people buy them rather than making them but being since they are in DRC they can't just go out and buy everything because they don't have the money for that and they have to make do with what they have.
John Rassel (Apopka)
It was intriguing to see just how intricate he was when making the soccer ball and how quickly he was able to not only find the trash but also make the ball. This is a great way to provide kids with something they love in a place where it may be very difficult to get a soccer ball. They’re not just able to go to the local Walmart and buy one. The film goes to show just how resourceful one can be. This Congolese man saw trash and instead of just ignoring it, he decided to make something amazing out of it. Even though the film didn’t contain any words it was still very powerful and we should appreciate more people like this man for his efforts of conservation and making these kids lives better and after the video, I wonder just how many soccer balls he’ has made and how many lives he’s impacted for the better.
Valenca Charles (Apopka, Fl)
This video is outstanding because it allows you the point of view of people that do not have the things that we take for granted. This film proved that when you do not have something you need or something that you are unable to get a little bit of creativity could go a mile. This man used his creative skills to create basically a ball out of the trash for people to play with. Living in America you would never think of doing such a thing when you could just go to the store and buy a ball for three dollars, but these people do not have that advantage and instead, they use their resources to create an object that is perfect for playing. Films like this open your mind and increase your creativity because it shows that you do not need one million dollars to be happy and create great things.
Oscar Garcia (Apopka)
It's interesting how this is a literal interpretation of the saying that "One man's trash is another man's treasure." This film really gives an incite on how lucky we are to be in the U.S or any MDC for that matter. Simply put, many of us here in these types of countries really take everything for granted. I mean literally it is an average occurrence to go to a restaurant and enjoy some fine dining but for someone in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, it is straight up just not an option. I'm not saying there's people that can't enjoy these luxuries even in an MDC but it really is an eye opener for the majority. Something I found interesting is how the man constructed the football. I mean if I saw some plastic wraps, pieces of fabric and string I would not think "FOOTBALL!" It shows creativity and if anything, the goodness of people. The man didn't get anything for his time and effort except giving some children something to play with. I mean that alone is awesome and I wish we saw more of that from people that do have luxuries unlike these people who have close to nothing. It's just a nice sight to see.
Shania Sylvain (Apopka)
This film was very short but I honestly enjoyed watching it. At first, I thought he was just picking up trash that was left b other people and this made me sad in a way. But, later seeing that he put in effort to create a soccer ball for the children replaced that feeling with a more cheerful mood .It was nice seeing how he took the time out of his day to make other people happy, which many people lack the selflessness to do today. You can see how he really took his time making sure the ball was well wrapped, tied, and secured to ensure that it was usable to the kids for play. From the video, you can that they must be located in an less developed country. He doesn't let this make him self-indulged, although.
Ifrit (Orlando)
I genuinely enjoyed watching this film. Strangely enough, it is very uncommon to see a person commit a genuinely good deed, an action with no personal gain other than the feeling of accomplishment and giving. Even though the film lacks dialogue, it continues to speak loud words with a simple 3-minute clip of a man. The lack of understanding in the intro of the film is interesting as the viewer does not properly understand what is the purpose of the Congo resident for picking up trash. The ambiguity is riveting because the viewer, such as my self, was expecting something to start happening, whether it be some dialogue or text explaining his motivation. But instead, we got nothing but a clip of children playing. The film has so many different messages that could be attained on a variety of topics such as the state of the present day environment, the impoverished African countries, lack of sanitation, etc. It is really up to the viewer to choose which message to obtain from this video, and I find that quite impelling due to the rarity of this type of content.
Lance Delostrinos (Apopka)
This film club showed how an old man took some clothes and fabric off the ground and some string to craft a makeshift soccer ball. The old man was either just a good man for the community or the grand father of those kids. Either way, he did it for the greater good. He took time out of his life and made a soccer ball for kids to play with. He wanted to better his community with the joy of play for children. Maybe those kids will fall under his influence and better their community with many good deeds. Then their community would be morally better with a cooperative community that'll take their good deeds and begin to develop. By develop, they'd rid the litter from their town and use the litter and make things with it, just like the old man did with the ripped clothes.
Joshua Phillips (Crusading The Holy Land)
Pass it on the film club is a very short one but it tells a lot with the few minutes that it is on, I believe it touches on resourcefulness through the fact that the man who makes these soccer balls he uses anything that he can find around him including garbage and shows how people in these poor countries have to just use anything they can find around them and they don’t have the luxury of going to store and buying things. I also think it touches on the theme of community as this man takes time out of his day to go around and look for garbage and tie them up in order to make soccer balls so that the children in the community has something to play with. Finally I think the film also shows how poor this communities are so poor that they can’t afford something as simple as a soccer ball it is really sad.
RJ Bush (Orlando, Florida)
This film doesn't have to much speech but it does show how carrying for your community can be taken to the next level. This Congolese man picked up different scraps of material and made it into a soccer ball for the poor kids in his village. You can benefit more by caring for others rather than being self-centered. If we cold get the world as a whole to have this mindset, the world would be at peace for once. This video relates to many topics. This film also shows creativity and dedication to helping your community. FOr every kid with a bright dream we should make it possible for theirs to come true. Our kids shouldn't have to grow up dealing with inequality and poor circumstances. It takes a unanimous effort to improve life on Earth along with the good way of living. The goal is to have everyone living their best life.
Savannah Taylor (Apopka, FL)
When he started picking up trash it just looked he was going to throw it away. I never would have imagined he would be using it to make a toy that the children would actually play with. The small makeshift houses reveal their economic situation and also why the man feels the need to make a soccer ball out of trash, they can't afford one like we can. Giving the children an opportunity to play soccer allows them to escape their reality and along with that their financial situation for a few minutes and just be kids. I think it was really thoughtful of him to make a soccer ball just so the children could play. This video teaches us to appreciate the little things in life no matter how small or how worthless they might seem they still contain some value, whether it be of financial or sentimental value.
Sophia J (Orlando)
I really like this week’s film club because such a powerful message can be heard in this video yet not a single word was spoken. This film club may help teach someone to appreciate and to be grateful for what you have even if it’s something simple like a soccer ball because that may be considered a luxury item to someone else. This man made the best of his situation. He didn’t have enough money to buy a soccer ball and instead of stealing one he decided to make one out the trash around his village. He took his time to make this soccer ball just to make the children in his village happy. These children probably weren’t even his children but he still cared enough to make them a soccer ball. People today are pretty selfish so to find someone doing a selfless act for their community is pretty amazing.
Destiny Matos (Orlando)
I did find the video quite interesting and enjoyable, regardless of the short time, however I think the title was a little misleading. I initially thought that the video would be about passing on some aspect of culture and heritage to the children of a nation. I think the man in the video was very kind to make the kids a soccer ball, because he didn’t do it to reap any benefit to himself, he just wanted to make them happy. He was also very resourceful when making them this soccer ball; he used trash collected from the streets of his village, wrapped it all together, and finally tied it with twine. You can tell what his effort meant to the children by looking at their faces while playing. They are quietly focused, and seem to be enjoying themselves, which shows the impact you can have on people’s lives, without having to do much.
Sarah Roach (wekiva)
People should take this video to heart. It shows how not being greedy and selfish can lead to others happiness. Which I believe a lot of people in today's society does not know how helping others to achieve or gain happiness will also help you self in the process and maybe gain happiness or a brighter outlook of the world. This video also shows us how we don't need money to be happy or to make others happy all we need is creativity and some material. So in other words we don't need money to be happy. Just enjoy life how it is and you might be surprised by what happens.
William Hamaric (Ocoee)
People should treat other people fairly. People shouldn't allow themselves to become corrupt with greed. Do people still get corrupted? Yeah. Is there a "cure" to people becoming corrupt? No, not really. The man in this video is a good man. He saw a problem, children unable to play a sport they like to play, and he chose to fix it. Does this mean he is a nice person? Perhaps. As far as my knowledge goes, he didn't do this for pay. He didn't do this for self-gain, or for himself in general. It's a really nice thing to see, especially because of how the media is always flooded with everything "bad" happening in the world. Complaining about someone because they happen to look like they have orange skin isn't news, it's just racism. Which is pretty ironic when you try to make yourself look good by pointing at all of the racist things happening in the country and saying there needs to be a change, when you are participating in the racism. Thank this wonderful man for doing something for others. It's a shame we live in a world where most of the people in our country can go to a store and see a soccer ball and just completely ignore it because they don't want it, while the people in places like the ones shown in the film have soccer balls made out of scraps literally picked off the ground and tied together by string. I do wonder how the man in the film would act if he was in charge of a large company in an MDC. Would he still seem like the nice guy making soccer balls for children?
Taniya Coleman (Orlando)
This film really stood out to me because this man took the time to make a "soccer ball", just to make the children happy. It's really thoughtful of him. For him to not have the resources and he was still able to create this ball out of scraps was very creative. Being in a LCD country makes it very hard to reach resources so that was a good way to go around that problem. We need more people like him today who would go out of their way to make someone else happy. What surprised me is I never thought someone would construct a soccer ball, I thought they would just use other objects. You never know what little thoughtful things you could that impact a person. It might persuade them to do the same, and there would be happier people on Earth. As a result that would lead to less violence.
Samantha Pena (Apopka)
This film to me was really interesting. I was confused as to what the man was doing at first, but when I saw how he was making a ball I was really taken back. It's amazing to think that someone was able to take something as simple as trash and turn it into a toy for children to play with. It made me really happy to see the children playing with the ball he made because it helped me see how you can appreciate things that others might consider to be trivial. I've never even considered all the things that I have access that I've taken for granted, but this video made me feel really grateful for what I do have and even made me want to become a child again and something that I haven’t done in years, and that is to just simply go play outside with no worries.
Erik (NJ)
@Samantha Pena I agree with you because all of what you said is really good. I agree that the children were really happy because they were enjoying playing with the soccer ball. Also, it makes me grateful for what I have.
Jared Rogers (School.)
I thought that he was just pick up trash to throw it out and clean up the street but then he started to make a ball with it and at first I thought it was going to be a basketball but I thought about it for another second and realized that it makes no senses because it wouldn’t bounce well. The man put a lot of effort into making that ball and it probably took him at least an hour to make it but where we live we can work for an hour and buy 2 or 3 balls of higher quality then what he make and that fact really shows in this film club. This film club also shows that you can use the trash you find to something for others but more importantly make memories of good times with the people you love and care about even if you aren’t in a good situation.
Amir Moore (Apopka)
This film club was yet another one of the film clubs that feature know commentary by a narrator.I have been starting to see a lot of these in the film club.So now I want to talk about what I saw in the film club.So first I would like to say that the man in the film club was incredibly resourceful.Because I do not know a lot of people who are creative enough to make a soccer ball out of scraps in America. So it also makes you think about how all the litter we find on the streets can be made into something. And because we do not notice the usefulness of the litter proves how privileged most citizens in America truly are.Now back to the film one of the reasons I think the people there are more creative and resourceful is probably because of their circumstances and how because they are not given a lot they have to rely on their own creations in order to survive and have fun.Which I find is interesting so overall I enjoyed this weeks film club.
Jacob Park (Florida)
This was a very good film club and had a very powerful; message to go along with it. Using only what he had around him he made a toy for the children so they could play for countless hours. this shows how in such a poor country kids can still be entertained and that the goodness in your heart can go along way. What stood out to me was that the one kid only had one single shoe on, i thought it was crazy how he was playing almost bearfoot by sharp pieces of trash. It just goes to show the differences of countries and that some people in the world are living in severe poverty. The title also has a message in it as well. Pass it on refers to passing on the kindness and goodness that the man had and spread it everywhere no matter who they are.
Darian Lee (Orlando)
Initially, I was really pondering about what the man was doing because it was interesting yet sad to see how he had to find the scrap materials. I thought he was going to recycle the scraps. Then I saw how the man put so much care into this ball that he was making out of the scraps, and it was heartwarming to see how much the children enjoyed it. Seeing the huts, trees, and animals in the background in addition to the background noise of the village gave the film an interesting tone. It was amazing to me that this film was so powerful despite the use of no words at all. In the end, I believe that this video should teach us in other countries a valuable lesson about conservation and resourcefulness and show us how much we take for granted. Appreciation for what we have is absent for the most part in daily life, but that should change, because if we continue to be so wasteful, the world will not exactly take a turn for the better.
Brighton Nilsson (apopka)
This video has justified the fact that kids don't need technology to be happy. Simple things around you can be created into an instrument of wonder just for your entertainment. Not everyone has access to resources for things they want but others can create something out of nothing and are grateful for the stuff they have. It's amazing of what people can make out of the materials in the environment. People who have most of what they want and need, take them for granted but its the little things in life that matter. I don't know too many people that would just do a simple act of kindness for the sake of others without looking for anything in return. The man at the beginning of the video is an example of creating a source of entertainment with his skills for the children's happiness without expecting anything back.
Mia Perisa (Apopka)
I liked this video even though it was brief. It amazing that this man did this for the children because they wouldn't be able to afford a soccer ball on their own. After it is done, you can see how joyful they are while playing which shows their love for soccer and their gratitude toward the man even though they didn't say anything in the film. This also shows that they do not care about it being a real soccer ball, they are just happy to have fun. Americans worry about what brand they are wearing and everything else when it doesn't matter, it's the fact that you have wearable clothing and shoes. So often now people take everything for granted because we can buy almost anything when it is needed or wanted. This goes to show just how much we have in comparison to others around the world and their situations are usually forgotten by any.
Adrian Garcia (Apopka)
This Film Club I feel is very real. Although it is just a man making a soccer ball from the resources available to him, I feel that the man should have a sense of pride for this accomplishment. Personally I cannot make a ball from what is around me, and I have resources in reach in which the people in Democratic Republic of Congo would love to have. As a More developed country we take these small things for granted and do not appreciate the little skills that can impact others such as the children who he made the ball for. Since we have resources at our fingertips we don’t worry about things like scavenging for materials or making enough money to provide. Conclusively I feel that we should really step back sometimes and be willing to learn a little, learn tasks in which are something we can be proud of and that can eventually help others.
Emily Borr (Apopka)
My first reaction to this video was that it was not at all what I expected. After reading the title, I assumed it would be about passing down history or folk culture or something along the lines of that. However, I did enjoy the video. I liked that the man made the soccer ball for the children just because he wanted to, not because of money or some other similar reason. I feel that not many people where I live would be willing to do something like that if they weren’t getting any benefit from it as well. I also thought that it was really interesting how resourceful the man is. He takes some trash and turns it into a surprisingly durable soccer ball. I know that I definitely cannot do that or anything close to that. It reminds me just how lucky I am to have grown up with nearly everything I wanted and needed within my grasp. I hope that that life will be possible for those children soon, too.
Cody McLean (Apopka)
The moments of this film which had stood out to was how they had nothing to work with but used the surroundings to make soccer ball which is very resourceful of people who are in countries in as they find ways to have recreational activities while having a bad time. I am not surprised by anything shown in this video because I have seen how people can resourceful and make amazing creations with materials that are very limited or out of the norm. With this video I will take take away no ideas from this video as I already have them but this is sweet video and makes my heart feel good as I see children having fun. I wish that they can get a good education so that they can move away to a better place with a fulfilling life like ours. Or these places get better developed.
Roggernsy Jacotin (Apopka)
I'm not sure what to feel after this short video. I didn't understand the reasoning behind showing the film about a man making a soccer ball. Before reading the description at the bottom and reading the title "Pass It On" I believed this short video was about someone collecting plastic and how they reused which is true but not in the way I thought it. This film didn't stand out to me due to fact that almost every year I travel to Haiti and witness some of the craftsmanship of these people and how they create something from little to no materials. A moment that stood out to me was how the ball is so durable through all that trash and junk on the floor as the kids picked it and played around with it. I wonder if this film club has a deeper meaning to it or was it just a film showing a man in a low developed area creating a soccer ball out of nothing. I can take back from the film the idea of not taking little things for granted like my house and the items I own. I also can take back the idea of creating something out of nothing because not everything can be handed to me.
