Never knew so many dogs liked Redvines!

Our little white Coton de Toléar loves going to Nationals’ baseball games when they have Pups in the Park special events. She and her other doggie friends sit in the outfield stands, and most watch the entire game. And all are well behaved! Mia also perks-up when she sees and hears dogs on the television. She watches them intently! I certainly hope that when the movie comes to the DC area, theaters will offer the opportunity to let them come with their owners and watch the movie! I wish American cities and towns would become more puppy friendly … the way many cities in Europe are and the way SF and our area – Alexandria and Arlington VA – are becoming!

To be clear - we need small humans- sometimes called children- to experience life and grow if the species survives- just saying

I just adore Wes Anderson. He has the heart of a child. He could make very different movies, more lucrative but less substantial fare... I am sooo glad he doesn't. Hurray for Isle of Dogs and the whole Anderson oeuvre!

Great article! My Cavalier King Charles, Beau, would be barking to warn everyone of a dog on the screen trying to get into the theater. Beau is especially wary of dogs in commercials....he recognizes the introductory background music for particularly threatening tv ads and runs to attack the TV cabinet. I fear I would need to remove him from the theater for being disruptive.

Dog owners are becoming so inconsiderate!

LOL Bah humbug!

This is not the right venue for dogs. The movie is too long for them to sit still. The sound in movie theaters these days is too loud for my human ears, so I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be for dogs. It’s an event only the humans can enjoy, so why put your dog through that? Dogs are not accessories. Unless you have a working dog — a REAL assistance dog, not a made-up one — leave your buddy at home unless it’s an activity the dog can have fun joining you. While being free to act like a dog.

When we sit down and to, our dog lays down and goes to sleep.

I'm fine with this so long as the dogs turn off their cells phones during the movie.
CDF (NYC)
I, too, would have given anything to be there ! Even if it would have been costly - being out of the country at the moment lol I just imagine what my dog would have thought if he had been there .. MyDog- " oh mama !! dogs !!!

This is very cute. Thanks for brightening my dull day. Dogs are so good at taking arrogant humans down a peg. Loosen up!
lou andrews (Portland Oregon)
you must be joking. Dogs haven't a clue nor care less what movie is playing or what the plot is or who the characters are. They'd rather be outside in the woods somewhere chasing squirrels. You people are worse than the people who dress their dogs in stupid outfits. As William Shatner famously said decades ago to Trekies, "Get a life!"
Kaari (Madison WI)
And afterward did they all troop over to NYC ACC to protest the killing of multiple dogs and cats seven days a week?
miguele3 (san leandro)
My dog would only care about the snacks. Just staring..at me...give me snacks!

Not sure I would want to visit that theatre after. Its also kind of presumptuous of humans to think that a dog would like a film because their are dogs in it. They would probably prefer a nice walk.
CDF (NYC)
It’s sort of impossible for humans not to presume what a dog wants or needs since the two species do not speak the same language.

Great idea as long as potential customers are informed that animals are/have been allowed on premises. I would never set foot there, but if sitting to a stinky animal is someone's way of enjoying a cinematic experience, so be it.
Rebecca (Cambridge)
These are few of the times I miss San Francisco. Boston catch up please.
lou andrews (Portland Oregon)
Boston please don't catch up. Remain sane.

Mondo cane ... it's a bit much for those of us who like dogs well enough, and must tolerate them nearly everywhere.

Woof, woof.

Thank you NYT for this. A wonderful pause (no pun intended) from the painful Trump-centric daily reads.

This is right up there with "Dog Weddings". I hope the theater at least turned the sound down.

ONE lint roller?

per seat,perhaps.

Out of 8 people posting so far, 2 had serious concerns about this one-time, light-hearted event. For the record, I’m sure the theater is well-stocked with upholstery and carpet cleaner. And I doubt theaters are going to allow dogs other than service animals now. Lighten up Francis.

Thank you for this. I needed a reprieve from, well the news, from our country.

There's nothing more exciting nor exhilarating than watching the reactions of a new comer at the movies, regardless if they have two legs or four. I thought the notion of the red carpet was a stroke of genius. Funny and wonderful article. I would have given anything just to be there and see all of these fabulous dogs and their parents.
Marge Keller (Midwest)
If we had a dog and the opportunity to take her to see this flick, she would have gone just for the pleasure of sitting in our laps and helping us devour the buttered popcorn. Great article!
Lisa (NYC)
How do we know all these dog-owners are attentive and responsible? What if an 'accident' occurs on the seat?... is the owner going to report it? Will the seat be thoroughly cleaned? I don't like the idea of people's shoes being on any seats where I may sit, so why should I like the idea of animal paws on public seats? Dog fur on the seat? What about people with allergies? I think some humans need to keep their relationships with their pets in check. I mean, pets are great and all but...they are Pets. A public movie theater should not be a place for them, even for a 'special screening'.
vcb (new york)
There are so many theatres that don't allow dogs I think anyone who doesn't like sharing space with canines can find a safe venue. Give the rest of us this one. Same thing with complaints I've seen about pet friendly hotels...just go somewhere else with a no pet policy. There are plenty....
CDF (NYC)
oh bah humbug .. should we discuss small children in theatres and bathrooms ?.
Passion for Peaches (Left Coast)
I think this is such a bad idea that it verges on animal cruelty, but if you think humans are respectful of the upholstery in theaters you must exist, in your mind, in a happy little place in Candyland. Theater seats are exposed to all manner of human fluids, as well as bare feet and dirty shoes.

What a great idea for a movie. My dog isn't really interested in watching any media unless it has dogs in it - so this would be perfect :)
dlhicks (US)
i love it i’m pretty sure my dog would have no interest in a movie of any kind... anything that distracts her humans from her is sufficient reason to metaphorically “leave the room” but i loved the article and all the canine fans, definitely a nice distraction from.. well, you know, pretty much everything.

Smartest publicity man ever!
CDF (NYC)
My dog has mild interest in television but I am not sure what a film on a big screen would do to him lol but I do know he would be quiet .. I don't know why but when the tv is on, he won't bark or make noise. Same with the radio. Perhaps he is more civilized that I thought he was :)

Adorable. I loved all the wonderful pictures. This article is a perfect antidote to the more grinding news cycle I was working through, in my effort to be an informed citizen. A nearby park pool hosts a doggie swim at the end of the summer, and we have thought about taking our pooches to the event. However, we have one water- crazy pup and one water-phobic dog, so until we can solve the issue for the pooch that is water-averse, we've put it off. But seeing all these dogs out and about at a movie premiere makes me want to give it a go this summer. If anything, our dog will have a blast just running around pool-side and may be more adventurous after seeing what raucous fun the other dogs are enjoying. Well, time to pop over to Dick's Sporting Goods to look for another doggie life-vest, honoring my commitment to make purchases at their establishment after their public support of an assault weapon's ban and policy changes in their stores following Parkland.
Bonzo (Baltimore)
I had to smile at the pictures of the dogs seemingly looking up at the screen in their seats. How cute. Who doesn’t love dogs? However I’m hoping against hope that we don’t normalize bringing them to the movies. The potential for distraction is immense. The public has already given up its right to peaceful dinners in restaurants to families who treat the space as if it were their noisy family room. Bringing dogs to the movies would only hasten our inexorable cultural decline.
CDF (NYC)
I agree .. for an event it is adorable but dogs and children can stay home otherwise .. unless they do a kids and dogs matinee on Saturdays lol
Flora (and Fauna)
CDF, This is a PG-13 movie expecting and expressly hoping for a large contingency of children to partake. No need for children to "stay home otherwise." Let's dispense with the rather scrooge-like response and welcome children to a movie that was made with them in mind. Jeez.
Flora (and Fauna)
Let's keep in mind that this is a PG-13 movie whose makers are expecting and expressly hoping for a large contingency of children to partake. No need for children to "stay home otherwise" from a film made with a young audience in mind. And for the sake of the movie's financial viability, I certainly do not expect it to be solely relegated to a Saturday matinee time queue. Maybe the "George Wilson's" of the world need wait until this one hits Netflix. Bonzo and CDF, I'm looking at you!
