Hey Brooks, why not try putting up a small indoor antenna and watch free, over-the-air network TV in high def? The transmitters are up on Mt. Wilson, and if you can see them (and even if you can't) you can watch ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, ION, MyTV, PBS, and other networks FREE.
No need to stream CBS - just pick up a DVR with tuner and record your shows. (That old tube TV you have isn't gonna cut it.) There are 27-28 digital TV broadcast stations available with over 100 channels of programming to supplement your streaming video.
And for gosh's sake, go to Fry's and pick up a flat screen TV. They're cheaper than a nice dinner for four these days...
SO agree on the Hulu Apple TV interface. Yuck. It’s friendlier to go through the smart TV app or stream through a phone and chromecast. Hopefully you shaming them will lead to some improvements ;)

Pluto has Slow TV (437), which consists of very long videos of European train trips from the engineers cab. It's hypnotic.
YouTube has a lot of the British landmark TV series that PBS didn't think fit for US viewers, like "Our Friends In The North":

Do the right search and you'll forget you have Netflix.

I have found that Play Station Vue is a good alternative to streaming live TV. It includes all local networks in major metropolitan areas, and has an easier guide for selecting channels.
