TJ Peters (New Egypt)
This video was very heartwarming because this ma spent decades with no limbs. Finally, he was able to use his arms. These mechanical arms a miracle and can help a lot of people. If they use to do a little research they can really do something for the world.
Laur (New Egypt, NJ)
It is sad that Les could only try on the arms temporarily; he should get to keep the prototype. This development in technology is a breakthrough, however, multiple years will pass until it is available to all in need of prosthetics.
Jenny Erick (New Egypt, New Jersey)
Les Baugh was a man that had lost his arm when he was young and still acts like he is a normal human. The neurologist asked him if he could feel a sensation in his arm that wasn't there; he then went to john Hopkins University to try out arms that the scientist had been working on for him and they finally had finished and he was able to test it out. Les Baugh never gave up - he fought for what he wanted and he wanted to have arms again.
Stephanie Llatance (New Jersey)
Les's arms were evaporated off when he ran into power lines. I thought it was amazing that he could handle everyday tasks by himself. He seem very grateful to experience the experiment of the two robotic arms. The creation for the arms is a long process so Les was not allowed to keep them. Even though he can't keep the arms, he got to know what they felt like.
Celia Medina (NEHS)
Personally, when I saw the condition Les was in, I couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards him. I believe that the engineers at Johns Hopkins University have created the technology of the future; they have given Les the chance to live a normal life again.
Joshua Grimes (NEHS)
This is about a man who lost both arms and is testing out robotic arms. This shows me how quick life can be taken away from everyone
Zack Brubaker (China)
In the video, the man with no arms did daily life things like a normal person. It took longer to do those things but he could still do them. He went to the Johns Hopkins University to try some arms again. At the University he moves objects and tests out his new arms.
demitri (new egypt )
This video taught me a lot of stuff i didn't even know this invention was made in 2015 and I'm learning about it in 2018.Its insane that engineers from Johns Hopkins University developed a next-generation prosthetic that has 26 joints and can curl up to 45 pounds which is controlled by the mind.
Robert Keubler (Clown Town USA)
In this video and article I realized how lucky were are to have our limbs. I also learned that anything can happen unexpectedly. Like he said his brother challenged him to a race on foot and when he won he turned around to look at his brother and tripped into power lines and got hurt really bad. We are lucky to have limbs because everyday he wakes ups it is extremely hard for him to do stuff.
Freddy Wap (Jamaica)
In this video, it talks about how a man lost his arms due to an accident when he was a young man. Throughout his whole life, he had to cope with this issue, and do everything without arms. Johns Hopkins University reached out to the man, explaining that they had experimental robotic arms that he could try. The man accepted and got to try on the arms. Since he still had nerves in his shoulder he was able to control the arms with his thought. Since the arms are brand new, he was unable to keep the arms, but in a couple years, they will make the arms mobile.
Eric Mark Gardella (Walmart)
It was very impressive for the nerves to be there and for the man to not be dead after his incident.
Matt H (New Egypt)
It is amazing that Scientists can create a device that can replace prosthetics and become artificial limbs that actually works. he might be able to live a normal life again.
TJ Peters (New Egypt)
In this video, a lot stood out to me. From this article, I learned how lucky we are because some people don't have body parts that we have. That makes it harder for them to do chores and everyday tasks a pain to do. It is very cool that a robotic body part can connect to your mind with your nerves. Hopefully, in the future, this man will be able to get his robotic arms to use."That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"- Neil Armstrong

In this video the man is finally able to use limbs for the first time in many years. This is a new step in society because we are now upgrading our technology to help the handicapped. This is an inspiring video and teaches everyone not to take anything for granted.
Cole Bokop (New Egypt High School)
After reading this video I had realized how much we take for granted and how ungrateful some of us are for what we have.
Matthew Voorhees (School)

When watching this video, I realized how much we take for granted in our everyday lives. I thought what Johns Hopkins was doing was very generous of them to have someone be able to live like a normal person again. What stood out to me was at the beginning of the video when he was using tools and his legs to do work. That inspired me because I realize now that anything is possible whether you have limbs or not. This is by far the next big step in technology for the future.
Matthew Voorhees (School)
I agree with you that we do take stuff for granted in our everyday lives. This is a big step for our technology.
Matt H (New Egypt)
I agree that the human race takes our bodies for granted. this could make every bodies life back to normal and we might enhance and evolve the human race.
Joshua Grimes (NEHS)
Very good job. Interesting take on the topic. Great job showing the background and the technology.
Jared Rogers (School.)
I think that this is a great thing that is happening because this will help so many people in the world and the only thing that is stopping him from using the arms to their full ability is that he can’t use them that often. I also would like to know the limitations to the arms like how fat can they move so in a car ride you can get the car moving in the direction fast enough, how much they can carry so you can know if you can pick something up or not, how long the battery is because I don’t see much space for a battery on it, and how much it would cost because these are all important things that we need to know so we can know how far they have gotten, how much time it will take for the public to get them, and for people to know that it is worth it to support them in the development of the arms.
Arlette Vargas (Apopka)
This video really stood out to me because this man has no arms and he does everything in such an unusual way that i think that if I had to go through that I would have never figured out ways to do it the way he does. They are making bionic arms for him which are very cool I am still very confused on how they worked but they looked very cool to work with and I think that would him out alot in his life but it would also be very hard for him to get use to them and to carry them on his shoulder all day.
demitri (new egypt )
I think its good but be more specific
Mia Perisa (Apopka)
One moment that stood out to me was when he was talking about what happened to him. He said that he didn't know what he would do with his life anymore. It's amazing after thinking such bad things that he could accomplish so much, especially after they said he might not live after the age of 21. I think it is great that he has the opportunity to use the robotic limbs. By doing this he can help to further develop them and make them better. Sadly, he cannot take them and use them all the time because of various reasons. I hope one day they can be available for everyone in need without costing a great amount of money.
Freddy Wap (Jamaica)
This is very good, using good detail and background information.
Taniya Coleman (Orlando)
A moment that stood out to me was when he was home and how he was struggling because i thought people who didn't have their limbs had someone that lived with them. Another moment that stood out to me was when he was driving and was using his foot to turn the wheel which was by the gas pedal and break because i didn't know they made cars like that. Something that surprised me was when i seen the robotic object and how you used your brain to move it. A question i still have is when will this object will be able to be used by those who need it and also how much will it cost.
RJ Bush (Orlando, Florida)
The part that stood out to me was how Mr. Baugh can do many things that amputated people cannot do.
Ryan Twarkuksy (New Egypt, NJ)
and he also had the ability to move the arm and hands with the nerves in his body still
Rich Hallam (New Egypt)
That part did stand out for so many reasons. Such as, how he had no hands and then, later on, he could be able to grab water bottles, shapes and etc.
Amy Williams (Apopka)
The moment that stood out to me the most was when he told the story of how he lost both arms. It broke my heart to see how he had to live without arms and the struggles he went through while doctors told him that there was no chance of survival. I never knew that such technology existed to the extent of mind controlled prosthetic limbs. The fact that robotic prosthetics are an option for him makes the situation more positive and shows that we all have a better chance with the right resources at the right time.
Evan Brevil (Orlando,Fl)
This film, though i thought it was going to be like all the rest, really stood out to me and it mad me happy watching it. The part that stands out to me the most though is the fact that the man in the video even though losing both his arms, still found a way to do things in his own certain way and i felt bad for him because of how hard he has to work to complete the simplest of tasks throughout the day , but what really makes me happy was the fact that he good ti experience the sensation of having his arms back again even though it was for a short time this man really looked like he genuinely enjoyed it.
milani isales (apopka)
It is crazy to think about what our lives would be like without our arms or without our legs it makes us look at how grateful we should be that we do those amenities. There are those who live without the same amenities as me and i find those people inspiring because they still have the motivation to carry on with their everyday lives even though they do not have some of the same opportunities as you and me. This video shows that even though this man does not have arms he is still able to do things that people with arms can do such as cook, drive, swim etc. I am very thankful that i have all my body parts in perfect shape because i could not imagine going through my everyday routine without them. I think it is great that there is a new technology that will help people with no limbs, i feel it will change the way we look at technology forever. This will be the next big thing that will make a difference all over the world.
Sophia J (Orlando)
I never really thought about what my life would be like without my arms. When I saw Les Baugh in the video doing his daily routine it made me realize how much we take things such as our arms for granted. We use our arms for everything to cook, eat, clean, etc. I’m even using my arms right now to type this comment. Not everybody has arms and it’s great that they’re developing something for those people. The prosthetists and engineers who are devoting their time to make these robotic arms deserve a medal. This product can aid the lives of millions across the world. This video just proves how wonderful science is to us.
Valenca Charles (Apopka)
This video is a great representation of what's to come in the near future. It is amazing how the robotic limbs were being controlled by Les Baugh’s mind, that is something you don’t usually see in your everyday life. This video proves that robotics are being built for useful purposes, it will be a great achievement to have finally succeeded in building the perfect robotic limb and also to be able to supply it to those in need of an inaccessible limb. Although, we do have a great amount of years ahead of us to complete this process, I believe it will truly be one of the most successful processes. It will be difficult to adjust to a new life where humans rely on robotics, but it will be a step towards a better future. This is only the first step towards a future of robots helping humans from all around the world.
Ifrit (Orlando)
When seeing Les Baugh try to perform everyday tasks like making a meal or turning on the stove, the thoughts immediately shot through my mind. It is truly difficult as a human with functioning limbs to truly understand and empathize with Baugh because the little movements, reactions, and impulses we make instinctually and effortlessly is a challenge for men and women with physical disabilities. Although I do not want to, it is difficult to feel anything other than pity for a person Baugh's situation. The loss of a limb can be immensely strenuous, mentally, to an almost incomprehensible length. To face every day as a challenge is hard to imagine for most and this film has brought new light to my eyes on the importance of robotic prosthetics and how necessary they really are for a human being.
Aidan Naran (Somewhere)
Watching this video made me realize how we take things for granted. We use our limbs everyday and sometimes we don't even realize it. What I mean is that not always do you really think about moving a limb, it just does. It feels so normal to us, but thinking about it not being there really hurts. It's heartbreaking to see people robbed of their limbs and have to deal with doing day to day tasks with great difficulty. It was just heartbreaking to see Les struggle to do things that are so easy for us. Something that stood out to me is that he has a dog, I mean having a dog itself isn't surprising. However, seeing that he hasn't given up on himself that he can take care of the dog without his arms shows his courage of completing these tasks. I'm so happy that he got to at least try a pair of bionic arms, even more so to see his face when he was doing stuff with the bionic arms. It is unfortunate that he doesn't get to keep them, but the arms really show how far technology has come now.
Shania Sylvain (Apopka)
It's crazy and amazing to know that this man lives everyday without arms and still is able to take care of himself an participate in activities such as swimming and driving. This film club shows that there could possibly be help for those who struggle with this problem. It's great how or technology has advanced how how scientist are using it for good. Technology is our future and with great knowledge and the increase in new types of technology could help disabled and hurt people in their personal lives.
Amir Moore (Apopka)
The film club of the bionic man was an interesting one.It did tell us the man’s name and the accident that caused him to lose his arms. It was also cool to see the new technology he was using and how he controlled it.Though it is a shame that he was not able to keep the technology for himself. But I also wished it went into more elaboration about his everyday life like what he does during the day or where is his family and is he always alone.Though they did show some of his everyday hardships I did feel as though they could have shown or described them in greater detail.
Darian Lee (Orlando)
I was really surprised by how many simple tasks were a major challenge for Les Baugh, and it made me think about how arms are taken for granted. I was also a little shocked to hear that it was an electrical cable that cause his situation because I assumed that he was in the military and something happened. I thought that it must be impossible to get used to a daily routine, especially with the fact that there are constantly new challenges to be faced, as put by Baugh. It was nice to see that he had such a great opportunity with Johns Hopkins' engineers. They were able to create incredible technology and have an impressive understanding of physiological configurations. For example, how they know that tingling in one spot triggers one part of the hand and then are able to map it out to physically connect biology and robotics. On the negative side, however, it can be difficult or frustrating when the arm can't do exactly what you imagine. The technology would also be expensive, but as it advances, it will improve.
John R. (Apopka)
This film is an example of just how far technology has come. It really stood out to me just how much he was able to do with his mouth and legs, especially driving. To learn those things and make them fluent it must’ve taken years so I can only imagine what he would be able to accomplish if he got bionic arms like the one shown in the video. It goes to show how Les Baugh perseveres through adversity and that may pay off in the long run. Although it’ll be years before he might have the chance to take one of these home, the sheer glimmer of hope that he may have his arms back can push him to be even stronger in the future. It shows that anything is possible and we should never give up no matter the circumstances.
William Hamaric (Ocoee)
The technological advancements that are shown, leads me to believe how the world is changing with us becoming more accepting of technology/robots. This also shows how it may not be advanced as people think it is, with Mr. Baugh barely being able to pick up the blocks. The technology can't give people that don’t have limbs, such as arms or hands, the ability to do basic functions, like grabbing stuff and carrying it somewhere else with just your fingers, immediately. People are afraid of technology becoming too advanced and ultimately taking over the human race, but I don’t believe people should worry about it, unless there is somebody that codes the technology to do bad things, then it would be an issue. But it’s unlikely. This film shows how advancements in technology have been doing good deeds, such as giving someone that doesn’t have arms the ability to have and use arms.
Lance Delostrinos (Apopka)
This film, to me, was very interesting and entertaining as I got to see an old man who doesn't have arms to go through the many obstacles in life. The many steps that he took to achieve and progress through the obstacles were mind boggling, but also sad and somewhat dangerous. For example, when he lit his fireplace, he could've lost balance and go face-first into the flames. To see him work so well with the bionic arm is so.. futuristic. It was a heart-breaker to hear that he couldn't go home with it since it's not commercially available. His life would be back to normal, as the "Bionic Man".
Monserrat Resendiz (Apopka)
Something that really stood out to me in this film was how technology has come a long way. To the point where people that don’t have the same capacities as us, can use it and help them in their everyday life. Something that stood out to me in this film was how this type of special technology can do something that other people feel like it wasn’t able to be ever done in history. One thing that really surprised me was how he was able to control the robotic hands with his mind, who would have thought that was possible
Robert Keubler (Clown Town USA)
I thought the same thing you were also thinking.
Joshua Phillips (Crusading The Holy Land)
This film club really presents the idea of what the future of robotics and biotech holds for humanity, with this biotech we can give a man or women their limbs back 20 years ago that would have been seen as absurd but now its within our grasp. This video also shows how humanity is shifting into a future where we are going to become more and more reliant on robotics first we put them in our pockets now in our appliances and now in our limbs there is no telling what this technology will hold for the human race.If we can give the power of arms back to someone think if we can do this with legs or ears or any other limb on the human body there is truly no telling what kind of precedent this type of technology will set.
Brandy Holland (Apopka)
Something that stood out to me in this film is that he has to live his life with robotic arms. We do a lot more than we realize with our arms and we don't truly know how much we need them until we can't use them anymore. It amazes me at the fact that he can still do every day things and he is strong for that which is good. The fact that we have the technology to create these thins for the people who don't have them is amazing as well because it can give them a sense of hope when they thought there was none left.
Corey (Riley)
True.
Sarah Roach (wekiva)
I can not imagine not having arms it makes you think about how blessed we really are . It must be difficult to live like that but they are really a inspiration. It is amazing that he is still able to do things that every one else can like swim, cook and drive it is crazy and it really helps you put life in perspective. And the way he lost his arms shows it can happen to anyone. The fact that people have found ways to help people missing limbs and them working and functioning artificial body parts is crazy.
Jacob Park (Florida)
What stood out to me was that he has to live his life through his teeth. I can't imagine going through day to day routines with out arms. This video made me be thankful for having all of my body pars. I do have a lot of respec for the man with out limbs, what he is doing is hard and I give him respect for going through it. Another thing that stood out to me was that they didn't give him the arms after he used them. I would be sad that I couldnt have arms all the time. What I take away from this video is that I now respect people without limbs.
Brighton Nilsson (apopka)
It's so amazing how we have the ability to invent and make something so advance, like new limbs for a human body, even possible. I feel glad to know that he lost both of his arms and didn't let life stop him and went on with his life. What surprised me was that he had a car that was adjusted to him so he can drive to places. Modern technology advances have given hope to people and have created new lives for people who can't embrace life as much as a person with all their limbs. It's cool to see how the bionic arms move based on the nerve senses from your mind and learning how to grab and move things.
Cody McLean (Apopka)
Some messages or emotions which I will take away from this is inspiration and how far our technology is coming in this world helping more and more people who are disabled. This shows how luck it is to have all of our body parts because some people who don't them deal with lots of trouble with daily task in life. Some things which surprised was him going he whole and showing us what it is like to have no arms to work with. This truly shows modern technology is going to be having lots of more progress which helpfully eliminate people with disabilities in the near future as seeing how do it is working right now.
Oscar Garcia (Apopka)
This was a nice realization of the advantage of simply having arms. Having to do everything with your teeth or feet is a huge problem and hassle especially in this day and age. I think development in robotic limbs is a great solution to the people that are unlucky enough to have had to lose their limbs. Right now there seems to be great progress but just simply seeing someone attempt to lift blocks shows that this is far from extensive public use. The learning curve is steep and if it can become easier for people to learn it might help make progression even faster for scientists. Overall this technology is an amazing thing and only time will tell how far it will go.
Samantha Medina (Apopka)
This video was very inspirational for me. Watching Mr.Baugh complete everyday tasks like driving was interesting. The fact that he could do things like that without any arms made me think about how lucky we are. We don't always think about how difficult our everyday tasks can be. Something that stuck out to me was how he thought his life was basically over at one point. Without any arms to help he was able to pull through that time and now is working with technology that may be able to give him working limbs again. I couldn't imagine living life without my arms. The way the technology that made the bionic arms work really amazed me. People with bionic arms sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. The amazing technology and perseverance shown, really inspire me to work hard and keep going because great things are possible and even if we face difficulties we can get through them.
Adrian Garcia (Apopka)
Technology has had many advancements throughout the years and has led to the creation of machines in which assist people that obtain a disability. The video is just one example of this type of technology. The tech that is used today is being used in mind to assist people such as the man in the video who are left disable for whatever reason. I personally am happy that companies are willing to invest time in research and money to find a way to help people who feel that they cannot make an impact on this world. I personally after watching the video felt bad and guilty for the man. Although it was never my fault but I felt a sympathy for his situation. Although he has learned how to adapt to a lifestyle in which he needs to be reliant on his legs and mouth to do things for him ,I still feel people like him deserve the same things we have.
Roggernsy Jacotin (Apopka)
This video spread many emotions through me and was very inspirational as it showed Mr. Baugh capability of doing things without arms and his willingness to make the robotic arms work. The way Mr. Baugh drove stood out to me as I couldn't believe how someone could build that and drive with just their feet. As I continue watching the way the robotic arms worked surprised me and challenge my previous knowledge. In the film the nerves that were still working allowed the arms to work which seemed impossible as I witness it happening. All in all the message I will take from this film is that you should never give up and that everything is possible.
Emily Borr (Apopka)
This video is really inspirational. Mr. Baugh himself without the bionic limbs is inspirational. The fact that he lost both of his arms at such a young age and is still able to perform most tasks makes me wonder if I could ever recover from an accident like that. I found the ways he adjusted to his life really interesting. For example, how he does most things with his mouth, or the car that he can steer with his foot. I also find it really amazing that we have the technology to give someone like him a chance to have arms again. It’s just so cool that something like bionic limbs, which was probably once thought of as crazy and impossible, is real.
Samantha Pena (Apopka)
Modern technology truly is an amazing thing. It never fails to surprise me when brilliant people manage to come up with things like this. It's easy for me to forget how far humans have come, surrounded by technology that's normal in everyday life, but then I see things like this that serve as a reminder of how amazing the world we are in is. What I found even more amazing is how the man in this video, Les Baugh, managed to overcome the obstacle of losing his arms. I was taken aback by the device he used in order to drive his car, it was amazing to watch. I find it fascinating how humans are continuously able to adapt and improvise and find out new things every day.
Andres Nieves (Apopka)
This film not only gave me hope for the future of our nation, it also restored a part of my life due to the support to Les Baugh through his struggle. John Hopkins University absolutely changed his life, by giving him the missing puzzle piece to his life. This revolutionary device created a bigger, more approachable future for us as a society to expect in the coming generations. The inventions he has made were meant to be permanent solutions, now intended to be temporarily conformities until the key to his success arrives at his doorstep.
Noelia Arzabal (Wilmington, NC)
This video is inspirational, it provides a sense of hope for an innovation in technology, so that hopefully some day for other people who've been through an accident or who were born without limbs to be able to have their confidence again. To not fall in depression because of the idea that they won't be able to do things the same or having to rely deeply on someone else. What stood out was where he was able to steer the car with is feet, like that was amazing that they have cars built specifically for people in need of it. My favorite quote that Les Baugh said was "I'm learning it's okay to be handicap and i could actually be something in life'. It shows how determined he is to make the limbs a new step into the feature, he knows it wont be entirely the same as the real thing, but he's determined that if it's successful it'll make a huge change in his life. It''s just unbelievable to see the advancement of technology so that it can provide needs for humanity.
William Butler (Orlando)
After watching the video I find that people that are missing limbs like arms, legs , hands, and ect could get them back in a few years. When people lose certain limbs there is taken away from them like its harder to do basic task like cooking, cleaning or even going to get a drink is so hard for them. But in a couple of years some of these people will be able to get their life back. Something else that interest me is that Les Baugh(the man with no arms in the video) was so fast to get back in the swing of using these robotic arms .This mean if it's that easy to get back in the swing of things people in a couple of years could get their lives back. The only thing that worries me about this how asscabile this technology will be because if it costs a fortune then their very little purpose of putting it on the market. But this technology could help more people like people who are paralyzed, people that are in wheelchairs, and ect this technology opens a new world of possibilities.
Marco (Ut)
I think its very interesting how, hes able to live his life "Normal" like us and its interesting how robotics is going to help him out.
lexus (Payson, Utah)
That is truly amazing to me that they have the technology to give people with missing limbs their life back, also making it easier for them to accomplish day to day tasks.
Emma Walker (Utah)
I absolutely love this. There is so much science and hard work going into this new technology and it's amazing. This technology can help those handicapped without arms live normal lives and help them regain the ability to do everyday tasks.
Jordee Anderson (Payson, Ut)
I think that he is doing a lot of great things that people said he wouldn't be able to do, and the bionic arms are another great technology advance. With such an advanced society it is helping other people who have lost their limbs gain back their confidence.
Ostin Jensen (America)
I like how excited he was to try out the arms and the fact that he could re-experience what having arms was like.
Destiny Dekok (Payson Utah)
I think it is so cool that we have came this far with technology, and to see how it can affect peoples lives. Seeing this cute man filled with joy and excitement makes me so happy.
Shumway's Class (Burleson, Texas)
Emma - I think that the story and how he learned very quickly how to use the biotic limbs. Lantz - I thought it was cool how he could overcome obstacles of not having any arms. For example, driving his car, starting his wood burning stove.
