I have a funny feeling that any dog owning West-siders reading the Diary will be having a conversation with their walkers to make sure it isn't their dog being walked in such a fashion.
It may look clever and amusing to someone who doesn't own a dog, but it is horribly dangerous to both the human and the pups.

You forgot to mention that the dogs were playing poker, and one of them was cheating.

Not safe for the dogs, the rider or anyone they encounter. Apparently, the “walker” left his or her common sense at home that day.

For me it's been a downward trend this week. What a bummer. This one is a disaster going to happen.

He/she will never walk on of my pets. Oy vey!
However I'm sure that the intent of the dairy entry is to highlight the ingenuity and dexterity of someone dealing with this city and its pace. This walker seems to have found a method that works, at least temporarily.

These diary entries used to be fun or clever. But no more.

Wit and wisdom, like beauty, are in the eyes of the beholder.

Mark - If you want fun or clever, and only that, every day, subscribe to Andy Borowitz; he never lets me down for fun and clever! But I read the Diary for the sometimes-unexpected true stories about Metropolitan life. My nature, which is to get pessimistic (though I hope with a chuckle) very easily, makes me feel good about some of the super-happy Diary entries a bit more. But overall, it’s honest, which you see even more clearly when you read it as a collection in the print edition.,
(New York Today, on the other hand, seems conceived and well-executed to bring us a range of emotions every single weekday. It boggles my mind that, even with the very occasional passing of the torch there, it does that almost every weekday for years. And they get it out around 6 in the morning, on top of that.)

Hear, hear!
Our dog moves very fast when he hears his breakfast or dinner being mixed and served, but never as fast as someone riding a Citi Bike. Is this a safe way to walk dogs?
Or is the dog walker also walking the bicycle?
