Its only a matter of time till every channel will be streamed and not transmitted over cable, as cable is completely redundant in this age of streaming. There is absolutely no need to have a cable hooked into a TV when there are devices like Chromecast that mirror anything on any internet connected device onto a TV. What the near future will probably look like will be a 2 tier system. One will be a channel streaming with no ads and the 2nd will be streaming with ads. The streaming with no ads will have a monthly fee while the streaming with ads will be free. Already today many shows that are shows on TV are streamed on youtube for free and the only thing the channels get from the viewer is that he view ads.

Worth $300 million? That remains to be seen. But if top grossing 50 Shades of Bad is any indication, maybe.

Ryan Murphy and Disney....Not a match made in heaven. Good for Mr. Murphy and Netflix.

Shonda Rhimes got $100 Million. Ryan Murphy got $300 million. Discuss.

It's called negotiation. Amazon wanted Murphy and got into a bidding war with Neflix. I used to work for a man who taught me, "you get what you negotiate".

That was the very first thing that leapt off the page at me as well. Some will argue it’s timing and negotiation tactics, but three times as much...? Although the article didn’t mention how long her deal was, but I am guessing it’s more than 20 months.

Mr. Murphy is a 21st century version of notorious schlock meisters such as Roger Corman and for that I can't help but appreciate him, but to brand him as a symbol of artistic excellence? Oy vey! How the dubious standards advocated by Hollywood penetrate the culture at large.

Not sure that most would agree - Glee printed money and was well-reviewed. American Crime and American Horror were both relatively groundbreaking. It is TV after all and not French New Wave Cinema.

It's way past time for the studios and networks to make peace with Netflix and Amazon -- right now they are just putting themselves out of business. The traditional model of producing for commercial television, then selling streaming rights to Netflix for re-runs, actually worked pretty well. Two pretty decent revenue streams. But then Disney got greedy, decided to try to kill Netflix and started charging outrageous prices for streaming rights. Disney bet that Netflix and Amazon wouldn't be successful producing their own content, but wow, could they have been more wrong? At this point it's probably not even possible to put the genie back in the bottle. Commercial television is doomed. Once people get used to watching in a commercial free environment, they never want go back to 6 minutes of commercials every half hour.

The only time I ever what commercial supported content is when I watch sports. At least then you know there is not action you are missing. With scripted content, I am just not willing to have it interrupted by commercials. For me it just ruins the story telling. Aside from sports, I have been commercial free for 15 years. I could never go back. It just stop watching. I had actually mostly stopped watching shows (except for a few series on HBO) and watched movies exclusively until the rise of commercial free content providers. HBO was ahead of its time.

Will the Simpsons still be allowed to take pot shots at Disney? Any more visits to Itchy and Scratchy land? Will we see Bob Iger skewered like Rupert Murdoch? So many questions.
