What a great story! You made my day Ms. Keim.

It's a nice story, but surely after fifty years of marriage, the husband was completely used to the wife running late. People who are prompt are almost always on time, other people always run late, and if one can't abide lateness, one doesn't stay married for fifty years to the latter type of person.

Love the idea of a transfer as a "note from the teacher". Apparently it worked. A bus driver friend who was single at the time used to give out his telephone number to single girls from his pad in the day. Too bad the Metro Card has done away with all of that. The poor author of this story would probably be divorced now!

Maybe, just maybe, it's time for NYC to introduce dedicated bus lanes on all major avenues.

This way, the MTA would be finally joining the 20th Century, even though we are well into the 21st Century.

“Should I walk?” I asked him.

Ha ha; I love our thinly veiled sarcasm. It has become an art form.

new york bus drivers are the best...

they tolerate so much: traffic, weather, violent passengers. it's such a pleasure to experience a driver similar to yours, i.e., someone who isn't afraid to show his personality while adhering to the rules.

I remember how kindly and efficiently they helped disabled people onto their buses. They were so kind to this old lady tourist trying to figure out what bus I needed.
