Can someone explain to why it is we have such a need to know in real time? Seems to me we've carried this to it's illogical extension. What pain would we all have to endure if learned of the "news" 15 minutes later?

I'm glad you did this, and I'd be even gladder to see Congress adopt smarter technology that would publish votes as they are cast, directly to the internet. It's 2017, people!

I was hoping to read about a Congressional API that had a live JSON data feed from the floor, with the bill number as a key. Data could include name, state, and yea or nay. Easy if voting was electronic. Kinda sad we don't have that. Kinda sad electronic voting is forced on the electorate, but not the elected.

I don't have much to say other than thanks for this story.

Couldn't a reporter simply have watched c-span, which has a a live tally on the screen as votes are counted, and report from there?

Never mind, I didn't read the article very carefully.

I stood by and watched the live count in real time (despite the bad news it brought).

Congratulations on this technological scoop!

The live vote count is a great feature. I may have been watching it during a meeting last week. Twenty minutes after your team had tallied the votes, someone in the meeting got the news alert announcing the results. That's a pretty significant delay in this era.

I was impressed with the vote tally, and enjoyed reading this story on how the reporters were able to achieve such timely reporting. I love these insider features--reminds us that reporters are real people, searching out the best ways to keep us informed.

How exciting! I have to say my heart rate was way up too, but not sure how much. Thanks for making the effort on getting to readers this live reporting.
Keep up the good work!
Best,
