We attended Ripcord last night. We often attend off Broadway plays without reading reviews first. Many are wondrous (saw "Incident at Vichy" and "Marjorie Prime" recently). Some not so much. Sadly, we found "Ripcord" to be in the category of a failed TV sitcom pilot. The actors, and the audience, deserved better. We'll keep supporting theater in NY nonetheless. The serendipity factor is worth if.

Have any of you actually seen the play? I'd like to hear your reviews

The play was wonderful, I don't know what Mr. Brantley was smoking when he wrote this review. How on earth does garbage like "The Humans" get raves while this beautiful work gets described as a lame Odd Couple? The subject matter was handled with such taste and gentle humor and the supporting roles provided terrific comic relief when things risked getting too heavy.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two veteran actors battle it out as each held fiercely to her emotional defense mechanisms. I also felt that the play delicately portrayed how psychological change can occur through perseverance, connection, acceptance and letting go. It is not a "heavy hitter" kind of play, but that is part of it's impact. I recommend it.

The argument as I understand it, is that the Times can't afford to have staff fact check the credits. But how is fact checking the cast credits that are listed any different from checking designer credits? Can't they be checked at the same time?

I'm sorry, where is this "argument" made so that you understand it the way you do?

why no creative team credits?

Thank you for perfectly useless information for the readers of the New York Times. I realize that you have a point of view about the nature of theatre, but your quiet crusade is laughable ... though it could point out the fact that theatrical design is more of a "club" that acting New York's professional theatre. Best to keep it relatively quiet.
