Great article and perspective on the game. Thank you.

While most Michigan fans are still in shock, we are also thrilled that Michigan is back. I hope the punter is not blaming himself for this loss; if the offense had gotten a first down this would not have happened. Mistakes happen in college football, these are young kids, they will hopefully learn from this and keep on improving. The entire team has been improving every week and it is a joy to watch.

This was tough... and I sat in shock in the stands for Kordell Stewart's Hail Mary way back when. The distance from the high to the low was vast on both days. I want to talk about it more, but my sadness makes me turn my mind away. The boys will try to do the same, and maybe will come out the other side better for it. What does not kill us...

Go Blue. That is all.

This has to be one of the most bizarre sports articles I've ever read. Look at the game stats, Marc. MSU beat Michigan in virtually every category except for special teams and, on that dimension, they more than made up for their shortcomings on the last play of the game. Yet there's no mention of those facts, only a favorable human interest story viewed through rose (I mean Maize and blue) colored glasses. While Michigan is clearly improved, this piece reads like you write for the Michigan student daily.

The game is not over until it's over. To have the wherewithal to take advantage of a mishandled punt takes skill, talent, experience, guts and luck! It was all present at that moment and MSU did it! Go Green!!

UM has nothing to feel bad about. They were predicted to have between 7 or 8 wins this season. They are already on pace to surpass that. However, Minnesota and Penn State are no gimmes. Then Ohio State comes to Ann Arbor which should be also be a close, hard fought game.

This is a tough game for UM but will give them resolve for the rest of the season. As Michigan State gets healthier, they are poised to beat Ohio State, win the B1G ten conference and play in the final four.

While singing the praises of Coach Harbaugh, be sure and review his other last minute calls against his brother (Super Bowl) and Seattle (NFC Championship.)
David (Michigan)
Did Harbaugh call the fumbled punt snap and recovery by the other team? I agree, that would be a bad call to make at any time in a game.
Scott Loney (West Bloomfield, Michigan)
Of course the Spartans win another game and the story is all about Jim Harbaugh. How could it be otherwise? Great reporting! Mr. Tracy must be a Michigan Man.
Thor (Ann Arbor)
Well, yes, Sparty won. They were beneficiaries of a once-in-generation lucky break. Fine. Win is a win. Painful loss for Wolverine fans and all that.

But that kind of win doesn't really change the narrative. Michigan is back. That's the real story.

Just try not to blow it against Indiana next week. Big time hangover week.
The Old Netminder (chicago)
Well, it is a story about Michigan, not a game report.
Thor (Ann Arbor)
Because Michigan's re-emergence is obviously the story here. It's been a long seven years for Michigan fans, but the tide has turned, the flukey ending of the game on Saturday aside.

MSU won the game, but nobody outside the MSU fanbase is going to run out and call this some sort of crowing success for the Spartans. Football fans are smarter than that, and they've seen the green and white struggle against teams that they should beat soundly, and benefit from a once-in-a-lifetime gift in Ann Arbor.

Michigan's football team will take that crushing loss with them to their graves, as they very well should.

All's catastrophic that ends catastrophically.
Brunella (Brooklyn)
Or they could use it as impetus and inspiration for improvement. This isn't a team of quitters.

Blah, blah, blah. They lost and they got two articles? Would a win have gotten them a special edition of The Magazine? Or just focused articles: "24 Hours in Ann Arbor." in the travel section, "The Kicker 'Stache replaces the Lumbersexual beard" in Mens' Style, and "The bizarre fascination with Tiny Houses ebbs and as fans flock back to The Big House" in Home? And, don't try to tell me that Brooks hasn't already drafted an essay arguing that the social capital of poor people could be instantly raised by dressing them in khakis and black football cleats
Brunella (Brooklyn)
A special 'M' edition of The Magazine is an excellent idea. I would enjoy seeing that beautiful winged helmet on the cover. Definitely a 2 page center-spread for The Big House with stadium crowd too. We do enjoy football Saturdays in Ann Arbaugh...
Brunella (Brooklyn)
I love my Wolverines. The discipline and energy are there, thanks to our coaching staff and a tremendous amount of hard work by all. It's a good foundation to build upon.

Go Blue.
Sandra Avis (East Grand Rapids, MI)
The anticipation for this game was palpable. Not so last year, in fact Wolverine fans dreaded it. We are back and we have our lovable and nutty coach Jim Harbaugh to thank for that. This morning we are all moving on...GO BLUE!
Geoff (Canton, MI)
Go Blue
gunther (ann arbor mi)
Exactly right. This was not Michigan's year to win it all. But they are back!

In regards to Harbaugh's conservative and inherently safe call to punt on the last play of the game: Welcome back to college football Jim! Or, this isn't the NFL!

-Family of five with two MSU grads and three UM grads. Go Green! Go Blue! Go White!
Ken L (Atlanta)
Michigan is most definitely back! Jim Harbaugh has, in one half-season, shown what can be accomplished in turning around a storied football program. I hope he told his players on Saturday that we was proud of them. They played a great game, every bit the equals of the Spartans. But in the end, it wasn't the punter's loss. It was the team's loss. One more first down, one more defensive play…any of those would also have sealed the victory. I can't wait for the Ohio State showdown. Should be one for the ages as well.

Notre Dame over Southern California now and since 1926 is center of college football universe. The two Michigan teams represent only a local rivalry. Go Irish?
michjas (Phoenix)
Notre Dame is pretty good this year. USC is bad -- did you hear about Sarkisian? I'm a Ducks fan. It isn't our year, and we all know that. The USC-Notre Dame game this year was pretty meaningless. Michigan-Michigan State was a great game. It wasn't #1 vs. #2, but Michigan is as storied a program as any and the hands-on-the-head posture of Michigan fans said it all. You can watch thousands of games and never see a last-second reversal like this. You need to get out more.
Almighty Dollar (Michigan)
After a dozen Michigan/Harbaugh articles this week, enough. Or as Al Davis would say, "Scoreboard, Baby".
michjas (Phoenix)
I am a Pac 12 fan and don't think much of Big 10 football. But when I saw that Michigan was leading State, I figured "this I've got to see." I rooted for State because Michigan was the favorite, even though they were not. I suspect folks in Michigan know what I'm talking about. I could not believe what I saw on the last play of the game. It's up there with the field goal runback by Auburn in the Iron Bowl, and the Cal-Stanford band on the field game. It never really registered that Michigan lost and Michigan State's celebration seemed surreal. I don't think this happens quite so often anywhere as much as it happens in college football where the players are good enough to be great and bad enough to be awful. I really do like college football.
John (NYC)
Don't worry. At the end of the year, there will be two B1G ten teams and one SEC team and one Big XII team. The Pac 12 will be playing in the hunger bowl or something like that.
Joe (Redwood City, CA)
I'm a Stanford fan but the Big 10 is surely back. Should be a great second half of the season for a lot of teams.
