New York Today: Joy in Metsville

I'm so glad that the Mets managed to win that games and were able to overcome all the odds that were against them. For a while that game was tied up, but after Daniel Murphy hit that solo shot to give them the lead, it was pretty much over for the Dodgers. I was very surprised to see Jeurys Familia pitch in the 8th inning and giving him an at bat just so that he could stay in for the 9th inning when they could have just used Tyler Clippard for another hold. Nevertheless, I'm happy for them winning that series, and I will be looking forward to seeing them on facing the Cubs. Another thing about Murphy is that I hope they do plan on keeping him after this season by resigning him.

A fastball “that some batters may have resisted.” Ouch. Sometimes “may” and “might” are interchangeable. This is not one of those times.

Using a picture of a bandwagoning Yankees fan masquerading as a Mets fan for a photo of the week? The least you could do is show actual Mets fans who've stuck with the team through thick and thin.

Count this Yankees fan as a TMF -- Temporary Mets Fan. The crosstown rivalry has fizzled, was more of a media creation anyway. If you're a fan of baseball you have to admire the awesomeness of the Mets young pitchers. DeGrom last night added his name to the very short list of pitchers (three) who defeated Cy Young winners TWICE in a playoff series. Just wow! When the 2016 baseball season starts anew I'll go back to being a Yankees fan, watching those old, tired legs try to run to catch a fly ball to right or beat out an infield single, hoping that management decides to give their young players a chance to get their careers going and play exciting baseball. In the meantime #LGM

As a Yankee fan from birth I must say this is utter nonsense.

The day I root for the Mets is the day they play the Red Sox, if that.

Go Cubs.

Substitute "Chicago" for "New York" and "Cubs" for "Met" and you have the same story. I thought I was reading about the Cubs/White Sox.

Regarding “Joy in Metsville”
Some previously lost “Casey at the Bat” sections:

The spirit is quite brilliant from out in the land of Queens
The city feels resilient from the seniors to the tweens
For now we are as unified as our town ever gets
Our Mayor has helped the Yankee fans to cheer the New York Mets

Oh, somewhere in New York today, a politician still connives;
Some one-percenters have their way with our incomes and our lives.
But for now we have a moment where we’re one without a doubt
And there’s joy in all five boroughs — Yankee fans are not left out.
