Their veggie curry is one of the great dishes in all of NYC, and that's saying something! Pair with the veggie goyoza, and wash it down with their signature Ginger Lemonade. A true LES treasure.

I'd love to see a few recipes!

Soy triggers autoimmune reactions in my body, so I'm glad they're naming the restaurant clearly. Sounds lovely, but absolutely not for me!

The mere presence of this article lowers my blood pressure, if only briefly to have a respite from recon/decon-structed chef driven takes on fusion and reimagined classics at abusive prices. It heartens me to see Mr. Gordinier being sensible and sensitive to charming characters, good soulful cooking and lovely people. Stop Being Sad. Indeed.

I have been to restaurants in Japan that were down-home and cozy, with service that would not feel wrong in a quiet country diner, and to others that were austere but relaxed. If you eat where working-class Japanese eat, you will often encounter relaxed and friendly service and atmosphere. There is more to Japan, and Japanese eating, than our Western clichés allow for.... It can be a warm experience.

I lived and owned a gallery by Soy for years and still have wild cravings in the West Texas desert for that "Spicy Tuna Bowl". Thank you for singing this New York treasures praises. It is food made with love.

Soy is the best kept secret in Manhattan.

since I first tasted burdock - soup - in a hotel restaurant - I think the serenely peaceful Otsu Prince Hotel Shiga on the shores of the beautiful Lake Biwa near Kyoto Japan - I just love it

even tho' it's considered a fairly ordinary root vegetable - usually sold in 12" stick sections in supermarkets - or julienned maybe with carrot in frozen stir-fry bags - the taste of that soup lingers in my love affair

and of course the wabi sabi nature of Japanese food - makes it a zen experience - good for clearing the busy mind
